    Well, to polish you'll need to pull the breech plug any way. I guess you could get creative and make a lead lapping plug without pulling it but it makes it easier. You can find videos on how to make this plug. It's not hard but you'll want to index it so it goes in the barrel the same way...

    It's machining rings caused by the reamer when making the barrel. All Colerain barrels have them. Look down the barrel with a bore scope and you'll see them. They catch a lot of fouling. My 58 has one down near the breech. You can polish it with some polishing compound or just keep...

    I bought a bunch of Scheutzen and Graf's, which is Scheutzen in a Graf's bottle, and that's what I practice with. I use a lighter load of Swiss when I'm hunting so wiping between shots isn't as critical. That stuff is really clean. Very good powder but about $10 a lb more.

    If you chronograph the two powders Swiss will shoot 300fps faster than Scheutzen. That's huge.

    You've totally turned me on to cherry. It's actually the cheapest of the three, Mapel, walnut and Cherry, at Paxton hardwoods where I get wood. I just hope I can make it look half as good.
