E.N. Santa Barbara new to me

I almost never use ball smaller than .457” and in the Shooters Model Remingtons I use .465”. In the.case of the Butterfield and 5.5” Colts it’s not an issue even with the short lever. Pure lead is pretty soft… Edit: I did hear of a fellow (@45D) bending the frame on a Remington when he loaded...

Not sure Mike deserved that shot…unless you guys are good friends and you’re saying that with a smile.

    Ugly Hammer

You might try chucking a nipple into a portable drill or drill press and hitting it with a file until the Remington caps fit the cone. The Treso cones are very good…

WANTED Brownells Cap & Ball Revolver Chamfering Kit

You can rent them from 4Drentals… if you’re only working on a few guns it’s a good deal.

    Uberti deceiving arbor fit

Me too, since the volume of sales is so much lower for cap guns I’d expect somewhat of a premium price but 800 bucks for a high quality proper cap and ball revolver? I’d jump on that.

Alternatively you could peel an apple and then blast the core out of it.

    Modified Colt

The first example appears to load much like the Merwin Hulbert disassembles… twist the barrel,,remove from the frame and drop a cartridge in place.

    Ugly Hammer

The dent doesn’t matter. As long as the surface inside the dent makes contact with the cap and the priming mix inside the cap is in contact (or close to contact) with the face of the cone the cap will ignite every time. I used to spend a bit of time setting guns up so that the hammer face didn't...

It’s a shame these replicas don’t undergo the same inspections and scrutiny as the original military issue guns. Made of modern steels they would be amazing firearms… still, for a few hundred per copy they’re a pretty good base.

Front sight blade removal of Uberti Walker

I wouldn’t be afraid of nipping the nose off the hammer and then installing a blade rear in the barrel block. Something like this could work and you’re still left with a 6” sight radius more or less…

If I had no way to measure the chambers I would use .454. Call Track of the wolf or slixshot and see what they recommend. I’m guessing they will be metric and similar if not the same as Pietta cones.

    Grease in Revolver

I shoot nothing but BP in the cap guns and it’s the reason I grease the action. Does it look nasty after a year or two of regular use? Oh yeah… is there any hint of corrosion after a year or two of regular use? Nope.

    Grease in Revolver

Difficult if not downright impossible. I used to just hose them out with CLP after every shooting session. Worked just fine, and every year or so when I tore them down they were full of black oily gunk but never corroded. Still, the grease is better.
