Is chain fire more likely from the front end with ball or conical bullet ?

I don't know how many have seen what the hammer does but videos have shown that ALL guns will have the hammers blown back, we have seen them reach full cock from the pressure. Even modern bolt actions will have the firing pin forced to the rear. My experience with C&B was a chainfire from the...

    Bar & Chain oil?

Since I use STP on all revolver cylinder pins, bp or unmentionables, i would use chain oil there. Best to prevent wear and keep fouling out. A small drop on the ratchet also does wonders. I am going to mention one to show, my Ruger SBH in ,44 mag has over 190,000 rounds through it with no...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

I need a design for a holder to hold the legs of a tree rat so it is easier to skin. Standing on the tail does not go well with me.

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

I agree we should have been informed, however I am happy it is fixed.

Does this look right to you ?

I agree, as long as the file marks do not enter the crown, I would leave it alone. To shorten the barrel will mean shortening the stock and nose cap. My neighbor has a rifle he pounded a hundred brass tacks all over the stock, now if you want to see UGLY!

    My balls

First, buy a ladle and forget the bottom pour. There are no heating elements in the pot bottom so lead will be colder. That spout can be half plugged. Make sure the lead is pure but a tiny amount of tin will not hurt as it will not harden lead much. Pure has a BHN of 5 and 1 to 40 tin-lead will...

    Ramrod question...

I use a range rod at the bench. I made a brass bore protecter so It doesn't wear the muzzle.

    Stuck Ramrod

The ramrods need sanded for sure. The Kibler instuctions should make it clear.

    Bullet casting/sizing advice welcome...

BP can be confusing when it comes to leading. I shot BPCR for a long time and used 20 to 1 lead-tin. Never had any leading and the bore was easy to clean. Then I cast some harder lead and the bore leaded fast. Sounds strange as heck because I shoot very large unmentionable revolvers with very...

How many of you dry your revolver in the oven?

If my revolver gets full of crud I do remove the grips and wash the whole gun, no need to take apart. The moose milk or Barricade will displace the water. I then oil where needed. Hot water rinse is good but I do not heat my guns. NO WD-40 EVER gets near any gun---PERIOD. Cans of WD-40 are just...

    Round Ball Tumbling With Graphite

Griping and name calling is bad as everyone has an opinion worth listening to. That said just spray balls with barricade Not messy when dry and they look like new forever, Never store in a cardboard box unless you like the white stuff.

    Weighing round balls

New store bought or new cast, put in container and spray with Barricade so they stay shiny.

    Weighing round balls

Oldramrod has it correct. So does the crisco kid. Well said fellas. Anything I cast does not vary more then a few tenths of a gr. gave up weighing 50 years ago. Letting the ball take what it needs from molten lead in the ladle instead of the sprue will solve all problems.

Why no black powder hunting personalities

I hate inlines----did I tell you I hate inlines? I got one from a friend when he died and gave it away, I would not even fire it once. Back when walking was easy I prayed for snow so I could track deer with my flintlock. I can't do it now at my age but those were the days.

Woodsrunner, Is this normal for walnut?

Stain before anything else if you do stain. The pores are common and fill with finish as described by others. I have tried many sealers but finish is best. Tung oil from the store has almost none in it. My friend buys pure tung oil and it works nice to sand a slurry but does not dry so he mixes...

    ball roundness

Depends on twist rates. I shot IHMSA and you could see the spiral. ThE S&W .44 with 240 gr bullets would spiral around the flight path but changing to a 250 gr would eliminate it. The 1 in 18-3/4 twist was too fast for a 240 gr. The Ruger's 1 in 20 was perfect for a 240 gr.

    ball roundness

Out of tound a tad will mean zero on the target, no mold made will cast round anything. As a mold heats the dimensions change in different directions since there are two halves, not a hole in a hunk of one piece metal. I make my own bullet molds and help the problem by heating the mold and...
