    Gardening ..again

Love a ribeye, but it's usually more fat than I ought to be eating. Generally eat strip steaks. Good beef doesn't want more than salt andpepper and agood hot iron sear and not too much cooking.

    Gardening ..again

Tin roof on the kitchen porch because I always loved the sound of rain on a metal roof. The noise is 99 out of a hundred worse than any imagined damage.

You will likely feel a lot better if you just shoot them.

    tick treatment

Right eye 20/500 due to ARMD. Nothing but clean air and eye medications getting anywhere near my left eye. Least of all a tick. When we find a tick on us or a pet, we burn it. Tweezers over a stove burner.

    tick treatment

Twenty odd years ago I got the LYMEX vaccine. Just now googled it and found the protection diminishes over time and that the vaccine was discontinued due to lack of interest. Have not had the disease but can't say if that is because of caution or the vax. But as of recently my blood still...

Storing black powder in a shed

The hardware where I buy keeps it in what looks like a brick outhouse. I believe we are looking at insurance company requirements. There is a door in the corner of my basement that opens to five steps leading down to a 1950's fallout shelter beneath my lawn. I keep my black powder there.

    tick treatment

Have seen a tick crawling on new snow on a winter day. Make no assumption about seasonality. Neighbor lady used a deer stand on the edge of my property. Saw her at the end of the day and she was covered. Looked like someone had shaken pepper all over her. I do not hunt the woods any more. Stay...

Crazy Crow non iron "Iron" cookware?

Drop a steak in a hot iron pan and you get sear, which you want, and you are not dropping the pan's temperature. A typical steel pan does not have the thermal mass of an iron skillet. They are alright for eggs and suchlike, but not beef. If I am baking a potato to go with a steak I put the iron...

Crazy Crow non iron "Iron" cookware?

Don't think I would trust cookware from India. I love cast iron, but don't always want to deal with the weight. Their is good carbon steel cookware made in the USA. Just as with iron, you need to know how to maintain and use it. If all else fails, hop in the car and drive to the diner...

    Thoughts when buying a gun

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I get compliments on my flinters and I know they are sweet to look at. Just can not convince the wife that a MA Deuce would look good on a tripod in the middle of the living room carpet.

    SxS Shotgun lock spring HELP!!

I would have no clue about making a spring. But surely there are people in this community who do. Start with makers who build their own locks. It must have been common knowledge among gun makers and smiths in the flintlock era. Certainly there was no Acme Gun Spring Company to buy them from.

    Homespun riflemen’s knife

That is a good piece of work. But.......just for discussion's sake? What makes a rifleman's knife? As opposed to any other sort? I can torture a target pretty well with a rifle. Flint or suppository. But is my knife a handy tool? A self defense fall back? Both? Entry level knife fighting sounds...

    Thoughts when buying a gun

There are shotguns you could paddle both ways and hunt with. But you want to strip, clean and oil them after.

    Thoughts when buying a gun

Depends. ML or suppository. ML has to be elegant. Suppository I would really like belt fed. Which can be elegant in its own right. EG the MG34.

    Thoughts when buying a gun

When I go on water it is salt. Paddles are not useful. You need oars.
