    Squirrel Hunting Attire

I kinda miss the old time Army Surplus stores. I remember getting the used woodland camo pants for 3'bucks, and the shirts for 2. Used of course, but as a preteen squirrel hunter, I thought I was doing big things. Not to mention they are just useful garments, lots of pockets.

    Got a jake this morning

Well done buddy! Beautiful piece, and some good eating! I came close to shooting one so far. Actually called in 2. If the Jake bird would have come I'm a little closer...... He was about 40 yards, long beard about 60. Had a decoy set of 2 hens and a Jake about 20 yards in front of me. My New...

Oh, Come On With the Inflated Caps!!

Give yourself a big pat on the back buddy! I won't run out in the next decade either. But I don't go around trying to be superior to guys that don't have a large stash. Maybe you don't intend to be that way. Maybe I'm just cranky.

Knock yourself out. Buy all the $30 caps your heart desires. I have enough to keep going for a good while.

Oh, Come On With the Inflated Caps!!

Don't drop the soap around there either! Always found it odd the way "gun dealers and vendors" have to try and take advantage of their customer base. I'm sure he didn't pay an eighth of that. Unless they were magic caps.

    Squirrel Hunting Attire

Still have my woodland camo vest from K-Mart. It's shrunk some over the years😉, and the elastic is dry rotted on the shell holders. Probably still some beggars lice on it too. Sentimental I suppose. I used to chew the he!! Outta Red Man totems if anyone remembers them.

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

I always knew them as warbles (Midwest). Never had one on any squirrel I killed in my youth, and our season opened in August. I killed a ton of them in the 2 weeks before it was back to school time. I have shot a couple of rabbits that had them.

    tick treatment

We had our Lab vaccinated for Lyme disease when he was young. He still contracted it. The vaccine was guaranteed, so the manufacturer covered the treatment costs. It's a nasty disease for sure. My MIL has had it for years. Attacked her joints pretty bad.

    tick treatment

I use this stuff. I get it from Tractor Supply. 1oz mixed with about 10 oz water in a spray bottle. Just spray your clothes and let them dry outside. Don't forget to spray your socks too.

Storing black powder in a shed

I keep mine in an old metal cabinet in my basement with my unmentionable powders. It's in a small room unto itself I call the bunker. I have both my safes and 2 work benches crammed in there. I do have a dehumidifier in there too.

    tick treatment

I was talking to a fellow member on the phone the other day, he was telling me when he operated heavy equipment, and was handling diesel fuel a lot ticks stayed away from him. When I was in the military, I knew a guy that would wear panty hose down range. We would tease the bejesus out of him...

    carrying loose shot

I use traditional (🤣) plastic tubes also. I pre measure the powder at home. I use the same tubes for shot as well, I use a dipper for that. I carry my cushion wads and cards in a fancy brass dip can I bought from TOTW. If I'm running the Sky Chief load, I keep my saturated cushion wads in a...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Permetherin and a mosquito head net Fred. That and plenty of water. Just think back when we were young and feral in Illinois and season opened in August. I think we were impervious to heat and skeeters then. To be young again!

You have to wonder what goes through those people's minds to even think that's a good way to spend tax dollars.
