I grew up on a farm and my kids spent the first years on a farm where they learned the realities of where food comes from. We always had about 150-200 chicks in the spring for butchering. They played with them when the chicks were little, but also knew butchering day would come. Same with cattle and pigs.

I thought one of the silliest part of the Decaprio movie was when hungry Glass sleeps in dead horses belly, but leaves all that meat the next day.
