Got up at 4 AM, drove to my hunting spot. Parked the truck, shut the door ever so quietly and GOOBLE, GOOBLE . I had parked within 40 yards of their roost tree I have never seen them in such a small tree. I snuck up to a small buck brush in front of the truck and waited not making and sound. The mourning was perfect, the ground covered with white frost no wind and especially nice it was not snowing. I waited till the sun started to come up in one of the most colorful sunrises I had seen in a while.
You could here the tom's in this small tree starting to move about. Then the first one came down going in the opposite direction, OH KNOW! Had I spooked them. I sat still and gave one small yelp, GOOBLE,GOOBLE the second tom flew down right in front of me, 10 yards at the most. I had O'le Duke already in line with him. I pulled the trigger the white smoke belched out of the barrel. And that was the Knockout in Round #3.
This is the only gun I have ever named. It was made Patrick by for the Duke of Gloucester,Liverpool in 1805 to 1810. It is a quick handling 11ga. English Fowler with lots of gold writing of the barrel . A very handsome gun.

The Tom only had 1/2 of his tail maybe an escape from some predator, I don't know.
Here he is.

Seems like long

Tsaan Wookkuh Jerry!!! Sometimes things just fall into place!! I definitely think that's how my bird this year went. I still have a tag in my pocket but moving is taking up all my spare time!

Maybe I can get out one more time before the season closes!

THANKS FOR SHARING!!

Good story, Jerry! You really had luck on your side that time. I've accidentally gotten that close to a roost tree several times and it never worked out in my favor. Enjoy that turkey breast!
