    Shooting Style?

After last Fall’s deer hunt, I realized I need to practice in a manner which more closely simulates hunting conditions. I missed an easy shot because I was aiming down sharply from a deerstand. I was using my flintlock, which I’d never taken hunting, but had sent a lot of lead downrange with...

They make liners that have no slot. A hex key is used to install it.

    Newcomer 2nd question

As my eyes worsen with age, I simply decrease my shooting distance. Deer need to be under 45 yds. for me to trust a killing shot. After all, there are few things that I do as well as I once did!

Lace-up frontier style slings and crescent stocks..........

Yeah, it’s sure no 3”, foam-padded sling attached to swivels at bottom of rifle! Still it does get rifle from point A to point B.

This is my Traditions Ky. Flintlock. Strap ( don’t remember the brand) is 1&1/4”. So…this is how mine fits.

Traditions Kentucky rifle kit build questions

A quick search of “touch-hole alignment” tells me that an imaginary line drawn across the flat top of pan should intersect center of hole. That’s ballpark, as it sounds like there are differing opinions. Do a search and you’ll see what I mean!

Traditions Kentucky rifle kit build questions

Front-to-back alignment of pan/touch hole looks ok in these larger pictures. A search on the forum, or someone with far more experience than I have, can advise you on preferred touch-hole vertical alignment with bottom of pan. Just be aware that, in your quest to lower tang deeper into stock...

Traditions Kentucky rifle kit build questions

Keep an eye on touch hole/pan relationship as you work on tang depth. I can only see so much on my phone, but it looks like your barrel should move back a little to line up pan/hole. It also looks like you shouldn’t lower barrel too much into stock, or your touch hole will be too low in relation...

    Thoughts on traditions rocklocks

I have a Traditions flintlock. It’s my 1st “rocklock”,so I don’t have anything to compare it to. I followed advice I read on this forum, and polished all mating surfaces on back of lock. Using 2000 grit paper, I polished plate, spring, tumbler, etc. to a near-mirror finish. I also lightened...

Acetone/AutoTrans Fluid - Tested to be THE BEST thread penetrating solution going!

I seem to recall reading somewhere that you need to get the old ATF-(don’t remember if it was the Ford or Chevy kind) because the modern stuff didn’t work. Has anyone else heard this?

    Unplugging patent breech? Loaded rifle…

It sounds like you knew what to do, but forgot to do it! As a relatively newcomer to bp ( maybe 8 yrs.?) I made a list of proper loading/shooting/cleaning sequence to refresh my memory each time. I have percussion and flintlock now, so refer to lists when I go from 1 gun to the other. It’s been...
