Modern reproduction Hawken shots between cleaning bore?

Yes, me too. I believe that one could shoot indefinitely while loading with "wet" patches, using water soluble cutting/grinding oil and H2o. The oil seems to be better than soap because it leaves a thin coat of protective(ish) oil on the bore as it dries. Soap and spit tend to clean to bare...

    Washing patching material

Bird-beak calipers work just fine. The narrow nose gives a little more compression than the wider throat. So measure the material the way that pleases you, and measure the same way each time.

What’s the hardest bullet that can still obturate?

What’s the hardest bullet that can still obturate?

I feel like you'll have to find a bullet that is short enough to match your barrel twist, and under-caliber enough for a heavy cloth patch. Especially if you want any chance to be able load more than once, without a thorough swabing. I was fairly competitive at 1000yrd long range black...

February 6 Is National Lame Duck Day!

Sure gave up some points trying for the head-shot. This may be one of those targets that I'd been better off just sending as many through the body as possible. As hard he was to hit, I think this duck was one of my favorite targets so far. Thank you Gary!

February 6 Is National Lame Duck Day!

Here's my best effort on the duck. I tried it three times but was never able to best my first attempt. With the odd shape of its head I printed another target just so I could tell how much ball I actually had on the duck.

Powder Charge (FF) in 16 Gauge Smoothbore with Slugs

As long as the ball leaves the barrel of you're rifle, you are golden! I've used as little as 45 grains in my 58 Cal Colonial to win a few forum matches, so accuracy proved fine. 15 grains was my load for snowshoeing with my 54 caliber Pedersoli,.... this way I didn't have to wear ear plugs...

My front sight base is barely visible...and "flush/level" with the top of the rear sight. ..I have Kibler's "low sight" option on my rifle. The wind was blowing pretty good, right to left, and the mirage was bending my front sight, very visibly in the same direction, so it seemed to compensate...

I'm using pillow ticking..or maybe matriss ticking(?) If I use the "tips" of my calipers it is .015.. If I take a big bite with my calipers, it measures..018. My rifle loads VERY easily!!..using soluble Oil/H2o, . The rifle loads a "little" harder if I use wheelweight balls,.. but the...
