    Flintlock not fully striking/closing...any suggestions??

Thanks for the input mate, however I did actually resolve it shortly afterwards last year following the terrific advice from everyone on here (see posts #31 and #32). Incidentally, having finally resolved it The Rifler Shoppe eventually sent the completed lock that I had originally ordered...

    Baker Rifle powder horn (build)

Great idea - I had planned to solder a loop on the spout and base so adding one to the cup would be appropriate

    Baker Rifle powder horn (build)

Thanks for the reply and clarification Rudyard and the original caption with that photo does indeed attribute it to the Percy Tenantry Volunteers but as: IDENTIFIED BRASS BAKER RIFLE POWDER FLASK. [ translate ] This scarce powder horn is engraved with a crescent and crown on the brass buttcap...

    Baker Rifle powder horn (build)

There’s a small nick in the rim of the cup where I slipped with the angle grinder when I was cutting off the sprue, you can see it in the last pic of the cup sitting in the spout

    Baker Rifle powder horn (build)

Well it seems I managed to work it out, all I need now is a suitable horn to fit it to (and to perhaps fill my “slip" with a bit of brass solder) The measuring cup holds 76.5 grains of FFg

    Baker Rifle powder horn (build)

I could really do with some thoughts on how the spring latch on this powder horn should be finished and fitted: I “think” I may have an idea of how it should be but I can’t say that I’m completely confident.... I’ve been cleaning up the castings (and managed to slip when cutting off the sprue...

    Baker Rifle powder horn (build)

Has anyone here built a TRS Baker Rifle Powder Horn or have any pictures of one built from the castings? I’ve just received the Rifle Shoppe castings for the Baker Rifle powder horn but, as is usual, no drawings, instructions or example of how these parts should go together. This is the...

    Baker rifle powder horn

I’ve just received the Baker Rifle Powder Horn castings from The Rifle Shoppe if you’re still wanting a look at them:

Baker rifle and touch hole liner

Thanks for going to the trouble of explaining that, it is indeed quite interesting. I’m not sure that there is any sort of "inner shoulder" for the breech plug in the Baker barrel other than where the tapping for the plug thread ends. A borescope shot that I took early on to see if the V had...

Baker rifle and touch hole liner

I’ve no doubt that you’d know much better than I do as this is my first and only flintlock build so far, but I’d be very interested to know why.

Baker rifle and touch hole liner

It’s not a modification, it’s simply an integral part of the build and, as I said above, is according to the plan so there are no ignition problems and in all fairness I can’t imagine any reason why there would be any issues when built to plan. I haven’t experimented with different ball sizes...

Baker rifle and touch hole liner

Here’s what I did and it works as well as I could ever want it to. It is just as specified in the plan and there is no practical reason to vary from it - there was a lot more experience in establishing the design initially than we can ever expect to find in this era: I drilled the touchhole...

    Aging cherry

I’ve not tried it on cherry but for any timber that I want to accelerate the colour of age I use ammonia fumes - ie a bowl of ammonia inside an airtight container or bag with the timber. Ideally with all areas of the timber that will be visible completely uncovered open to the fumes, so not...

Flintlock hammer profile advice...?? Before I make a mistake...

Thanks Ian. That was just some engineers blue that I applied for the first strike only to see how it fell, I wiped it off with alcohol after that first go but it’s out of sequence in the video
