First ML was T/C .50 Hawken in '95. Later got a Pedersoli .45 Penn, then a Hatfield (bad choice, poor workmanship that I didn't recognize until I saw some "real craftmanship.") Tried to put a flint conversion on the Pedersoli and Caywood's comments that you get what you pay for became more poignant. Anyway, black powder smells great and I'm afflicted with "Rocklock Fever." Got a Caywood 20 ga/.54 cal interchangable on English Fowler. Since I read in Draper's work on Kings Mtn that most of the VA Militia showed up with Dickert's, I've been researching them. My 5th G-grandad was under Capt Dysart, who owned the land next to him in Washington County, Va. My next long rifle was a .40 EV,42" brl, wooden patchbox and prem. maple stock from Avance.
Am an avid hunter for deer and turkey. One guy got a 275lb black bear that was destroying our feeders. Bears may be next on the list.
