I'm a hunter and fisherman. Grew up in Superior Wisconsin. Fishing walleyes and going north for lake trout and big pike. Started muzzle loading at age 20. Friend and I purchased 54 cal Hawken rifle kits. Italian made, nice walnut. Worked steel and had it blued. Worked and fitted brass and finished wood. Turned out great. Shot great. Just gave it to the best son I never had. I also gave him lead, 2 lead pots, numerous molds and other needed equipment.
Took job in Alabama after Grad school. Thought I died and went to heaven. Gun season was 9 days in WS. In AL it is 2 1/2 months. One buck a day and three weeks of doe days when I first got here. Special muzzle loading seasons. Have several more muzzle loaders. Just purchased a Pietta Remington 44 cal Army Target. Haven't shot in yet. My younger brother has been really into target shooting Civil War guns for 40 years. He had a 4 inch cannon and 3 mortars. God knows how many other blackpowder guns. Called him up. Turns out he has one just like mine and it's the most accurate revolver he has. Went modern bought a Knight Rifle 20-25 years ago. Stainless, 50 cal., scoped with a 2-7X Leupold, 100 grains Triple Seven 3X and topped with Hornady 280 gr bullets with Sabots. Shoots great. Less than 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. Have shot numerous deer with it over the years. It's turkey season now here. You can shoot 4 per year. They are not cooperating. No gobbling. No mating. Cannot find turkeys. Got in the turkey game late here. Shot 30 Gobblers in 12 seasons. More later.
