I am starting to believe I need to move. I had to go back quite a ways in time to get any entries for the Southwest; then the only one from Arizona was Zonie (who I have talked to on another forum). I am new to muzzle loading and looking for some input on reenacting in this area. Maybe it is too hot here!

NO problem Up in the perfect country there people who who would be pleased to know you.I just got started in ML again this year I to am from the northeast,Vermont out here since 89.retired gunsmith who's wanting to play with MLing to add to my retirement and because I love the equiptment.

All things being relative it feels warm here also.
I built my own home out of a product called rastra
the walls are r50 I dont even have a swamp cooler
so far It's 20 degrees cooler inside than out.
however I like working in the shop with doors open
so I have a portable swamp aimed at me

Sadly, I dont see much collaboration among us Arizonan's. We talk on here a lot but outside of two I have never had any opportunity to get together off the forum, and I only actually was able to do that with one.

I am down in the Tucson area and I would like to report that there are TWO muzzle loader clubs in this area. Old Pueblo and Montezuma Muzzleloaders. Both are charter clubs of the NMLRA and contact information can be found in the "Muzzle Blasts" magazine. There are a total of nine ML clubs listed as charter clubs in AZ. Send me a PM if you need more information.

The Mazatzal Mountain Muzzleloaders will have their 31st rondy from Nov.7th. to Nov.11th. The location is Hwy 87 mile marker 239 1/2 about 15 miles south of Payson. More information contact Jim Webster at 480-586-7473. Scheduled events: There are 25, 50 and 100 yard paper targets; a "woods" walk; mountain man run (period clothing needed for this competition) and hawk and knife throws scheduled.

I do my own thing. I bought a used wall tent, boy Scouts. Was told I can't use it, so I hold my own fevendevous in the white mountains. I set up my tent and have a blast.

I just found this forum. I've been here quite a while, and never seen it.
Anyway, I'm living in Payson now, just moved up from the valley.
There are two clubs that I belong to, both in the valley.
But, we have our summer shoots near Mormon Lake, second Saturday of the month.
There is also a great rendezvous in August near Blue Ridge, called El Verano. Great shoot, great people.
Our club has one near Rye in November.

I'm down here in Yuma and there isn't much going on around here except in the winter months when there are some snowbirds hanging around. I mostly have to shoot by myself all year. There is a club here but it is loosely run and not really interested in new people in my experience.

Thought this forum was under used so i started a thread here also. Our region is famous for independent loners doing their own thing their way! Might explain lack of posts.
One thing i know for sure, cowboys never rode off into the sunset, blindly walking out of town at dusk is stupid!
Maybe we can generate some interest here.

Down here in the Havasu area. Not many powder shooters here local. Planning on heading down to Yuma to check out the Rendezvous Jan 2020. Also there is a Bouse Hills Muzzleloaders event (just north of Quartzite) Feb 13-16 2020 as well.

I am a greenhorn to muzzle loading and black powder, so with that being said, have any of you shot your flintlock rifles (or pistols) on the public lanes at the Ben Avery or Rio Salado Shooting Ranges? Any tips on etiquette or safety procedures that might be different from the usual everyday type firearms? Am I better of looking for a quiet spot off Table Mesa or similar???

Not familiar with those ranges. When I take my flintlock to a range where other shooters abound, I try to occupy the station at the right end of the firing line. If not possible, I erect a barrier to my right. If this is not practical (maybe too windy) then, if the range is not crowded, I will simply warn off any shooters attempting to set up too close on my right. This kind of sounds like I take over the range, but that is not the case. Generally, other shooters are happy to welcome BP shooters, especially if you are willing to let them take s shot. Most shooters find flintlocks to be fun, interesting and much less of an irritation on the range than the brass sprewers and muzzle brakes.

Almost moved between Tucson and Gila Bend with the first wife. But she wouldn't go that far from family.

Now I'm up in Maine with the second wife. She wont live that far from the ocean!

I gotta stop getting married!
