I only recently gained access to the regional forums, and I notice there's not much activity on the South East section. I'm in Charleston, SC. Anyone else around these parts?

Hey there, Audubon. Anyone who lives down a sandy, wooded lane is okay by me. Georgetown area? All the way up on the banks, maybe?

I'm just a few miles over the boundary line on the Cape Fear River. No fellow traditional shooters...no good BBQ. I have to do it all on my own.

Well, it's good to make all your acquaintances. :) I was beginning to feel completely alone in this part of the world. Y'know, we should probably think about getting together one of these weekends for a little traditional camping / shooting, etc.

What historical periods do y'all do?

BTW, I've got a dozen acres near Lake Marion in SC. Close to Holly Hill. Not remote, but secluded enough that I camp, shoot, and all without bothering anyone. Much.

Hello from the upstate in Rock Hill.I have followed this site for the last couple of years.I do enjoy the reinactors that come to Brattonsville here in Rock Hill each year.Iam still amazed at the history our state has made since the start of this country.Long live the sandlappers.Squib

Homesteader,

Are you familiar with the Charles Town Longrifles Gun Club near Moncks Corner, SC. They been in the club business about 25 years or more.

Nice group of fellers for shootin' with.

The Po Boys Muzzle Loading club down in Allendale are hostin' the SC State Shoot on the weekend of the 18-19 of April. Theys even gotta website.

Those two bunches plus the Piedmont Muzzleloaders near Simpsonville headed by George McDonald round out the shooting clubs I frequent for a good time.

You'll find more info on the NMLRA website link to "Charter Clubs" by state.

Just wish they would stay down in SC and stop coming up to NC and takin' all the trophies, and eatin' up our Bar-B-Que that we will servin' at the Bob Williams Memorial Shoot here in this neck of the woods on April 23-26.

Well, 'nuff said.

I shoot with Charles Towne Long Rifles, and I live in Summerville. Any and all please reach out to me.

This club is in what appears to be it's final death throws, and I want to keep it alive. I will be posting about this in the clubs forum area

The club has been going since '65, and many members have quit or died off. I am currently the youngest at 50

Are the Charles towns long rifles still going on I'm in orangeburg just figuring out this whole forum thing,I have a couple friends around me whom I get together with and we shoot we dont have anything fancy but enjoy shooting,we have been talking about trying to find a club

Hallo the camp!

Good morning, all. My name's Bill, and I'm pretty much just hopping back onto the forum after quite a few tumultuous years. At one time I was very active here, a moderator even, and will probably be again.

I'm happy to see some local boys. You may notice I started the thread asking about anyone in the Charleston area. Personal circumstances permitting I'd like to get more involved in the charcoal-burning community. I've got a small amount of land between Charleston and Columbia that I use for shooting most times. Maybe we could set something up to use it, and of course I'd like to see what y'all do at your clubs.

For now I'm going to lurk and read, since I've been gone so long and the forum seems to have changed so much. I wanted to reach out to you here in SC right away, though, so we could start chatting.

Looking forward to getting to know y'all

Best Regards;
~Bill

Bill,

According to the NMLRA Charter Club Directory, the three clubs and contact info in SC are:

Charlestown Long Rifles
Tom Smith
140 Tall Pines Road, Ladson, SC 29456, 843-834-2731, [email protected]

Carolina PO Boys Muzzle Loaders,
Joan Smith,
6513 Bluff Rd, Allendale, SC 29810, 803-584-7225

Piedmont Muzzle Loaders,
Marshal Kline,
310 Quail Run Circle, Fountain Inn, SC 29644, 864-569-4471, [email protected]

The problem with ALL NMLRA clubs is we're getting old (and older). I suspect the average age of NMLRA members is 65. I'm approaching 73, and been a member since '62.

Folks in the new generations are interested in computer games instead of camping and shooting and other outdoor activities. Back in the '80's, NC had twelve NMLRA Charter clubs. Now, we have six.

A number of SC black powder target shooters attend the NC/NMLRA Territorial Matches every year south of Fayetteville NC in April (this year, April 11-14). Shooters also come from FL, GA, VA, WV, and last year from Iowa for the BPCR match.

We get a handful of SC competitors every year to attend the NC State Muzzle Loading Championship Matches held on the last full weekend in September every year.

Georgetown SC is the home of Bob Hill, who builds exquisite & beautiful longrifles.
He sets up every year at the NC State Fair in October at the "Village of Yesteryear".

SC has much to be proud of in traditional muzzleloading.

Enjoy it while you can.

"Enjoy it while you can"... Yep, that seems to be the case with a lot of the things I really enjoy. I wonder about the kids coming up now, but I guess most generations have felt that way.

Nice to meet ya

Hey Homesteader , l will be moveing to summerville , SC in the near future . l would like to get up with some other smokepole shooters in the area .

Hey Mulebrain ... I'm moving to Summerville soon . l will be putting in a woods walk and novelty range as soon as possible. Do you guys shoot steel ?

We have some steel targets, but we mostly shoot paper 25,50,100 yard. We have a great private range, and club dues are 75.00 for the year. Around here that is a superb deal
