Buttplate annealed in the woodstove ! Its all ready for bend and fitting to my stock ! I'm gettin excited ! I'll be making PEW ! PEW ! PEW ! Noises with it soon !
I have been fretting about this possibility and haven’t even started that build!Front lock bolt on mine ...and the F uck up .... Geesh ! Yeah , I'm so good ! The front bolt was half way I. The ramrod channel so I had to thread , plug and redrill it all ...$#@%&!!!
Its frustrating ....and now I have to replace a window .....it happens but. %#@&!! ......meh. :/I have been fretting about this possibility and haven’t even started that build!
If one does it correctly it can't happen but ....too much coffee and , there ya go !I have been fretting about this possibility and haven’t even started that build!
Noted, less coffee more measurements on the day I drill the lock bolts! If one does it correctly it can't happen but ....too much coffee and , there ya go !
Oh , I know but it was just a dumb @$$ mistake ... My lines are on there ...just ...too much coffee , EVERYTHING was going wrong , things were dropping off the bench , I was getting irritated , and company was going to be here in an hour and I wanted to get SOMETHING accomplished before they arrived .... so ....big screw up ....but I did fix it so , like you said ...my first few builds I meticulously measured and drew lines on the stock where the channel was and where the bridge between the barrel channel and ramrod channel was, but after I did a few, I got cocky and relied on the lock geometry to line it up if the pan was level with the barrel. I did a very similar thing. now I draw on the stock on every one and squint my eyes when I drill that front lock bolt
YES !! Cant stress that enough !!Noted, less coffee more measurements on the day I drill the lock bolts!
no need to cheat, the book Fur Trade and Treaty has pix of original trade guns with rear sights that also gives their dimensions.actually I was gonna cheat, make 2 tang bolts, one a little longer so I could screw a sight onto the thread that was above the tang and a could switch out the tang bolt to make her look like they did, or wing shoot.
LOL ... I love my coffee but ...its gone forever unfortunately ....Hypertension has caught up with me , getting old sucks , so no more coffee ....meh. :/Rob as a former truck driver there is never enough coffee!!
Yep ....lots of original trade guns with rear sights on them . They were added later but it was very common and it helps a lot esp. at longer ranges . Mine will certainly have a rear sight on it .no need to cheat, the book Fur Trade and Treaty has pix of original trade guns with rear sights that also gives their dimensions.
my cousin in Louisiana has that book at the moment or I'd cite it for you.
