National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. OKC

Oklahoma City has always been one of those fly thru cities. We have driven thru at least 5 times and never so much as stopped there for fuel. So this time we made Cowboy Museum one of our destinations as was Waco and Fort Worth. Not many pics from Cowboy but look at these

Another museum well worth a visit.

I visited the one in OKC years ago. Absolutely worth the trip. So is the Texas Ranger museum in Waco.

Muzzle-loading percussion revolver?

That’s what struck me too.

There is a gun museum in a small NE Oklahoma town that laughs at the Cody museum.

JM Davis gun museum in Claremore OK. 11,000 guns on display. 4,000 more than the Cody museum. It’s not a fancy layout for certain though. It was once the private collection of a single man.

I enjoyed the John Browning Gun Museum in Ogden, Utah. No the biggest gun museum I've been too, however the displays complimented his accomplishments.

There are some interesting guns in there, and some non-gun items as well, some of them borderline macabre, and some of the information next to the guns is obviously circa 1970, but the sheer volume and variety is something everyone should see at least one. If you are in the area, might as well check out Woolaroc as well.

Son was stationed in OKC for Air Force. Always visited Cowboy museum when there. Also Fed building that was bombed. Alsom at night.

We too had planned on seeing the bomb site at nite but a fierce Oklahoma storm blew in. We had visited friend about an hour and a half SE of OKC and were returning about 10:00 in the evening when we hit the storm head on. I drove about 40 miles following the taillights of a semi praying he was on the highway, otherwise I would have parked and waited it out.

If you are in the Oklahoma City area, I would also highly recommend going to the 45th Infantry museum. Great firearm collection ranging from pre-revolution to the present. Just quit looking after you get past the Civil War if you don’t have any interest in unmentionables. There is a good collection of armor vehicles outside, and admission is free.

Pretty nice collection over at Woolaroc Museum south of Bartlesville as well.

I wasn’t aware of that one. The list keeps building.

Checked out the Davis Museum at Claremore Ok and Wool-la-roc back in '87 when I was passing through - both just awesome to put it mildly.

Very interesting illustration of the cylinder scenes. I thought there was only the one with a naval battle on it.

I was going to mention the 45th museum, and also highly recommend it. That part of OKC has several museums in just a couple mile area- firefighters, softball, an outstanding science and aviation museum and a zoo.
And the Bricktown area downtown has the American Banjo Museum.
