Spent time fishing and exploring Hatteras last week. The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum has some fascinating muzzleloading weapons. I took the best pictures I could. The mini cannon is a Lyle Gun, mostly used for firing lifesaving floats out to shipwreck victims. The torpedo looking projectile above it is one example. I think Lyle Guns were also used in a few defensive situations. Other guns are military issue and nice custom percussion rifles and pistols, used in the Civil War.

This very early bp “hand gun” was especially tough to photograph because of all the reflections around it. But it is fascinating. A mini hand-held cannon. Looks pretty crude, and has the mounting swivels for a boat.
