My newest acquisition!
E.M. Reilly sxs percussion wildfowler
Serial number dates it to 1864
She's a Beaut!!!
The fit and finish is outstandimg! 32" 11 bore twist barrels mostly purchased just to have in the collection but will shoot it in due time. All parts are in excellent condition considering she just turned 160. A few spots of rust on the underside of the trigger tang and what almost looks like a few pits in the barrels. Pretty much too minor to mention. Let me know what yall think!

Likewise we both have a beautiful bit of french walnut . These cape guns probably from South Africa , mine a little bashed around , it’s got time history, did he fall of his horse , trampled by a buff or fended off a machetes , who knows but a chunk of the for end had been replace .

I got another £130 at auction,12 bore left barrel rifled , Great maker Hollis uk , been in the wars , rusty and dents, and broken stock, it looks like it had fended of a blacks machete by the cuts that made the dents, finally did he bash the black attackers head in an break the stock , ha ha dreams , stories and history . 85% finished now, but I am great at getting dents out .not one dent now . Enjoy. Watch holts auction . England . I have won guns for a guy in Florida but it cost him £700 for Holts agents to get it too him in USA

Lovely to chat from across the pond, kindest wishes from London

Very cool! Certainly tells more of a story than mine. And ive been looking on holts, may have found a few in the august 15th sealed bid that ill try to get. What i find interesting about my reilly is that the stock is slightly cast on. I presume it was built for a left handed customer

I guess you are in the USA be careful of buying at uk auctions. Anyone overseas

One guy had to return his bid , as export was prohibitive, not to mention paperwork. However he was lucky as it made him several hundred ££££ with higher bids next auction . It can be lengthy too, as the agents like a number of guns so they only need one set of paperwork holts have their own shipping agents, on their website . I used to view and bid for people when Holts were in London but now they are up in Norfolk I don’t feel like a 400 mile to inspect, You can contact them for more detailed information , they never comment on bore condition, but the service is normally free
I wish you well. Ps Bonhams is in London

Yes Reilly was a good maker it will make a good shooter .I must say but no offence who ever restored this gun should have stuck to tradition and not a later period other wise a useable gun enjoy using it, a good game load is 2.3/4 drms of FFg to 1/1/4 oz of shot If to shoot ducks lift the load to 3 drams powder to 1.1/2 oz of 4or 5 shot .

It would be a far bigger cast off for a LH shooter ????? Recon just made to measure .I have nothing to compare .Reilly was noted , so I read, for keeping parts on the shelf so he could make a bespoke gun in a couple of weeks .? Yes Feltwad knows his stuff, well done. Just a collector at 81. Shot all my life even in Africa, well Nigeria . But fit enough to enjoy shooting arrows over morning coffee. Me in WA OZ. Nuffing to shoot. Chased an Emu once, they dont half run fast .

I won my 450/400 double rifle, at Bonhams for my 70th birthday and surviving cancer . Years ago !!!!!! Lot of ££££. Could not afford a steak at Harrods after, they are just across the road though. Wife did not complain , History. It was shooting cape buff just before I got it, poor owner died on his return , and his wife asked Bonhams to sell it. Happy dreams

Very nice. I noticed it on GunBroker a few months ago, looked to be a nice piece for the $.
Reilly made a wide range of arms and a lot of them…I once owned a cased 52bore Sporting Rifle- similar era to yours. Guy in Jackson Hole, WY bought it and has downed a few elk.
Congrats and enjoy.
