I was digging for goodies at an antique place....you never know what you're going to run across. I found a Lyman #55 powder thrower and saw a little powder horn with the price obscured. After paying for the Lyman #55 I asked about seeing the horn and the purveyor said he had a box in the back with more muzzleloader stuff. Sure nuff a box with 3 tins of caps, a antler flask with 1/3 lb of real black, ted cash capper, leather ball flask, decent measure, couple of flints, ball starters wrenches and jags. Also in the box a New Orleans Ace. Apparently the box had also sported a flintlock pistol; someone beat me to it. One tool I have no clue what it's for, I suspect it's for maintenance of flints...any ideas about the flat tool?

Very cool stuff. The antler powder container is neat. Flat piece is likely a turn screw.
Neat find, come cool stuff for sure. And I'd agree with the others, would say it's a turn screw If I'd have to guess.

Looks like a broken main spring that was made into a turn screw. Clever!
So a turn screw it is!
I found a few extra rws caps in the box that were longer than a typical cap by maybe .030, enough so that they wont function thru the capper. I used them (3) to test the pistol and they didnt fragment even...of course the charge was only 10 grains. Is there a size designation for longer caps?
The little ace pistol is sort of fun... 44 smooth bore.
Update; it looks like the longer caps are #55 rws caps for long guns.

I was going to say a broken mainspring but it looks like Phil got up earlier than I did this morning.

I agreed with you. I think it is a broken mainspring that was used for a screwdriver to improvise.
On one side down near the driver tip there is evidence of a crack having formed.
