It is 4 feet in the barrel. Stocked in Cherry. The lock was made by an English gunsmith. The barrel is French. Swamped and 28 bore.Details, please. Who made the lock and the barrel? I'm considering a similar project.
Thanks
Absolutely fantastic. Congratulations, I hope you get years of joy from it.It is 4 feet in the barrel. Stocked in Cherry. The lock was made by an English gunsmith. The barrel is French. Swamped and 28 bore.
A not insignificant number of NE fowlers were made from recycled French parts to include locks and even barrels. What many don’t realize is that so many of these New England fowling pieces tended to have VERY long barrels, as in 4 foot and often well over that. Most today have considerably shorter barrels which is fine and well and makes for an easier to maneuver piece, but it’s always an absolute treat to see one built with the period accurate barrel of much length!!
