Visiting my brother in Iowa. Went out to some local shops today while they watched the Hawkeye game and found this! 1979 cva mountain rifle kit in 50 cal. Appears to have all the pieces. Paid $100! I'm pretty happy with it!
It does however have an odd thing going on with the cheek piece.
Anyone know if the previous owner wanted a smaller cheek piece or is this how it came from cva?

That is how the USA ones came and likely the Spanish too. It takes a bit of rasping and a lot of sanding to get rid of the excess wood. It will be worth it though. Great shooters if you take care of it and clean it quickly and thoroughly each and every time. Mine has 70+ pounds of Goex through it and still shoots 2" groups at 50 yards.

Good deal! It looked like it was cut in the factory but just seemed odd. I'm not gonna go crazy with assembling this kit but will try to refine the shape/lines some!

I haven't yet shot the .50 cal. Mountain but have shot the .45 Kentucky many times and it's super accurate even with a Spanish barrel.
That's the general consensus I've gotten from today's research. The usa one "may" be better but the only thing the Spanish ones leave to be desired is the usa stamp. Haven't heard or read a single complaint about them other than the simple fact that it isn't usa made.
And in todays market 100 bucks for a reliable and accurate rifle....there isn't anything to fault
