Mowrey kits

The Olney Texas Mowrey rifles were very fine rifles when they came out.
The problem with them, they were little known, they were not Kentucky rifles, they were not Hawken rifles, they were not a popular name in the muzzle loading circles.
But they were every much period.
What they lacked in popularity they certainly gained in quality.
To many, if the gun was not a full stock it was some kind of freak.
Question: Does anybody still make the Mowrey action? It would sell!
We need more pictures and information on these fine rifles!

I own the Shotgun version. The only other models I have seen personally have been the Hawk. None with the thick butt plates.

Got a couple of replacement springs from them last year. Spoke to a lady on the phone and she took my order right then. Phone # is 18123467769. This was Deer Creek out of Indiana.

I’m a newer member doing some research and thought I’d revive this thread to add some info on Mowrey Ethan Allen rifles. Back in the late 1970s, around 78 or so my brother built the Mowrey in the photos. He passed away about five years ago and I have the rifle. If I recall correctly he built it in his apartment in Chicago and didn’t have the facilities to rust blue the barrel so he cold blued it. Over the years the bluing has worn. It’s 58 cal. And the only factory markings on it is the number “8” by the trigger guard. I don’t know if the 8 is a serial number or caliber designation. There aren’t any visible markings on the barrel. There might be some under the hand guard, but I’m a bit reluctant to unpin it. Not sure if I want to rust blue the barrel. I kind of would like to leave his work as is.

Enjoy both the memory of your brother and shooting the Mowrey.
Mine is a great shooter, as I think yours will be too.
It's fine the way it is, the blue can be touched up and it will be fine.

My rifle is numbered 118 of 500 bicentennial model! Can't find too much info about it , but definitely one of the best shooting rifles I have ever owned. Curious about the number of bicentennial made . Like I said , mine says 118 of 500, but have found models with numbers claiming 5000.
