An interesting video. I wish they had used guns with better quality, and probably faster ignition times, for their tests.

Painful to watch? Very! These guys obviously know nothing about muzzelloaders or black powder in general. They don't appear to be truly very knowledgeable or "gun wise" as maybe they should be to make the video. It would have been a much better effort with at least an elementary understanding of BP and ballistics. One thing they did well was to show that black powder arms are NOT toys.

Problem with a lot of people doing videos with muzzleloaders. Is they want to compare them to the suppository guns.
I read a Muzzleloader with knockdown power.
All this ballistic stuff to me is like you know singing kumbaya.
Yeah guys will show you a picture of a 30-in piece of gelatin. And I want to tell you look how far the bullet went inside of it .
Who cares that it went 27 in inside of 30-in piece of gel.
Especially when most of the stuff you're shooting is it much more than 12 in across.

Yeah....these gents demonstrated how deadly these guns are and show clearly it isn't something to take lightly. But the pistol and rifle locks in their guns leave a lot to be desired compared to some of the ignition times I have seen with higher quality weapons. I also find myself wondering what powder did they use. Then I wonder after how tight of a patch ball combo they may have had. But they were not evaluating powder or ignition times and seemed to be focused on how deadly they can be. Pretty deadly to be sure.

i killed these 2 bucks a couple of weeks ago with a 40cal. at 80 yards, PRB and 62gr. of 3f goex. the one hit in the neck dropped in his tracks and no spine or bone was hit. the other in the heart and he went 50yds. funny how people think you need some large caliber to kill an animal, you don't! you just need practice on the range, and hit the spot, that's it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Muzzleloaders’s have proven themselves killing for centuries…

Ballistics imho, has very little too do with taking a life..

.626 size hole with enough powder too punch through the ribs and into the vitals and it’s game over..
If you get a complete pass through, then your tracking should be minimal..

Big holes , create big leaks.👍

He never knew what hit him….😎

Entertaining. Makes me glad I have a simple 'ol chronograph rather than expensive cameras shooting thousands of frames per second, not to mention the mathematical gymnastics used to measure velocity. Ok, I'm impressed.....with how they took something as easy as measuring bullet velocity into such a big deal.

Great. Just another stupid video by morons that the news will use to “ prove” muzzleloaders need to be regulated.

Trying to compare apples and oranges. How powerful are ML guns, will they have enough power to killed off most of the Indians, almost done away with the buffalo, killed every bad-man in the West, hundred of thousands of soldiers in the Civil War, and winning of a continent that is how powerful they are.

Been shooting Flintlocks since 1982. A person who is proficient with loading one with a good lock can keep a group of about the size of a fist at 100 yds. (There are people that can do better) Also proficiency in loading, speeds up loading time immensely. Using home made speed loaders, you can have your rifle reloaded in seconds. In Pa during the flintlock season only we do a lot of driving. Have on several occasions shot a deer and reloaded to be able to take another one and the same group. I have read that during revolutionary days they would open the touch hole vent a little so that after firing they would close the frizzen and while reloading the barrel powder would come out the touch hole and prime the lock thus eliminating that step. In the day they used these rifles every day thus like everything else practice makes Perfection!!!

Steve Zihn the famous gun builder and hunter told me that a RB was the perfect projectile when it impacted an animal. he said it was already the shape and size that people were trying to achieve with expansion out of a high-powered rifle bullet, that it needed no expansion it was already the size it needed to be to get the job done,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Very interesting, makes sense!

I'm blessed to have my own shooting place over a 300 yard lane then woods. I have used all kinds of targets. 4 inches of magazines with a 1/4 inch.plywood behind it then logs behind that. Round ball would go through the first targets then inbed into the logs.that told me of the power of black powder. Would only use 70 grains of ff. And shooting up to 50 yards. That's my deer hunting load if I go. My 36cal pistol would do the same up to 15yards.
