Zouaves just seem to be the perfect size! The replicas have gotten more mileage than the originals, which were never officially accepted or issued. Wonder how many were made back then? Many late 1950's- early 1960's guys got into re-enacting or shooting with them. I've handled a minty original, and they are beautiful quality. (Not to knock the replicas, but there's no comparison!) I have a nice Zouave now, had a couple others but traded them off because the quality was not up to snuff.

I bought a Hi Hunter replica a few years back. It was pretty inexpensive back then. I dug it out to see how it would shoot and was pleasantly surprised. It will be used in South Dakota's upcoming whitetail doe muzzle-loader season. Shoots a few inches high at 50 yards with minies- can't get a better sight in than that. This is a good buy.

You need a higher front sight. Try Lodgewood or S&S.

Gil, no, I don't. I want any rifle I hunt with to be a bit high at short range. Out here we occasionally need to reach out a bit. Lodgewood is a good outfit to deal with just the same.
