When your lubing a patch with a grease type lube such as mink oil or bore butter.
Do you lube just the bore side of the patch or both. I've tried both ways and a have not noticed a difference.

I only grease one side (the side that goes down the bore into the rifling). I like to keep the (dry side) on the ball. I believe the patch better grips the ball if it is un-lubed, but as stated in the previous comment by French Colonial, the grease will squeeze thru the patch to the ball.

I use #40 pocket drill for patching material and even though I swipe only one side of the patch in TOTW Mink Oil it wicks through the material giving total saturation.

I punch out 100 or so patches. I then toss them like potato chips into my melted bear fat/ beeswax concoction then scoop them out with the wife's strainer spoon thingy. with a popsicle stick I separate the them on a paper plate. when they cool off and the lube solidifies, they really are like potato chips.
I try to make the patches the same diameter as the barrel and when i put them over the bore i press a pocket into the bore making a good seat for the ball.
