I have a prodject rifle. Thst I'll work on sometime soon. Its Pedersoli Kentucky. Its getting a new barrel. And lock if i can find one that is close to fitting. I realy would like to fit a Kibler Ketland lock on it. Which if I use a hook breach may move the barrel forward so that a touch hole could line up with a flashpan.
I've seen others complain about Roman nose stocks. And the tendacy for the stock. to slap the shooters cheak. So has anyone tried to reshape a Roman nose stock so that the comb is not so high. And if it would mess up the architecture to much.
Any thoughts on that.
 
Depends on what time period that you are going to make. The Roman nose on the early Berks county rifles was not nearly as pronounced as the late period rifles. Personally I love the roman nose. I make all my rifles so they fit me. I generally use about 1/4" cast off on the stock and a gentler curve. I have never had one that slapped my cheek. Another thing about Berks County rifles was they tended to have thicker butt stocks even into the late period.

I'm pretty much stuck with the 1970's Italian inspiration period. I hadn't shot the rifle much. Before stripping it down last year. It's a .45 cal. And half of the charge would push out into the flash pan. Once I figured out I was loosing all or most of my 3ffg . And closed the frizzen to load. Just one of the several reasons I'm rebuilding that Rifle.
This project may get delayed again. I just saw something interesting on Kiblers quick ship page. Lol that could be Number 6 Kibler kit since I got the Pedersoli 13 months ago.
I'll still consider all advice given on the rebuild. But bringing down the nose slightly was a thought I had. And as it is now it looks nice. And It may be fine. I just hadn't had the chance to shoot it with a stout load. Like my SMR .45 . The stoutest load in the SMR I've used so far is 90g. 3ffg. And I don't notice a significant increase in the recoil.
 
I have the Scout model rock sparker in a .45. I took a wood rasp with it in a vise & took mine down about 3/8-1/2 ". I just made it flat from butt stock brass to the wrist. Then I just worked it into a soft rollover. Mine is not more than 3/16" high now. I like it much more than it was.
 
Thanks smokepolehall. I've looked at that line from the brass to the wrist. And may opt for something midway. Just leaving about half the rise on the nose. So glad to know others have had the same ideas. And how much they took off.
