Did you at least get to keep the deer? I had that happen to me while I was on my way to hunting in a lottery hunt at Letterkenny Army Depot inside their fences. It was 5:30AM and I had already passed the main entrance to the base, but was driving to the fenced in hunting areas, and my driver's side mirror exploded, but didn't disable the car or me. I looked in the rear view mirror and there's a small 8 point twitching on the road behind me. Several other cars stopped and told to report it to state police or I'd get in trouble for poaching if I didn't have police's blessing, so I did call, but I couldn't keep it b/c I was out of state and one of the other locals got to keep it. I should have just taken it and reported it to the game commission guy at the hunter's check in and let him deal with it.
It was a weird day after that too. They drop you off around the peripheral roads and pick you up to take you outside the fence, back to the check in/check out building. I checked in to hunt and got dropped off inside the hunting area and forgot my ram rod in my trunk, so had get taken back for that and then taken back out to hunting area.
I saw nothing and got fed up by 11am. While walking out, I got 2 deer that day w/o firing a shot, but only got to keep one, nearly totaling my car in the process though.

Last year in Western Md

Dang, that was quite the adventure

Does anyone still use those Deer Whistles, like they used to sell at truck stops?
Do/did they really work?
I know truckers once swore by them, my dad used to have one on his pickup.
Now that I live in deer country I never hear of them anymore??

The Colorado wildlife people used to recommend them. Eventually they did a fairly extensive research project with them and found they did nothing to prevent collisions.
