I have some Authentic Swiss Black Powder - Supreme Black Powder in 16oz unopened bottles in 1Fg and 3Fg. How long does it last and if I stop shooting BP, how do I get rid of it? Can it be resold?
You can resell it to local users. Because it is identified as a hazardous material, it can't be shipped.

my flinters love swiss

Swiss is the only “purchasable” real blackpowder I will use. I mostly use 777 Fffg though, shoot my ROA a lot more frequently than my plains rifles. The ROA does not care what I feed it, from Fg to Ffffg, real or sub. If the powder is dry it will fire off.
I do not like Pyrodrek, at all, but if someone gifts it to me I will in fact use it. Dishwasher died, mouse chewed wiring, was so much easier to clean the revolver that way…

I will only use Swiss; it works well for me. As far as black powder going bad, I had a friend that was an EOD team member and every once in a while, he would be called to check out a fireplace explosion where someone had placed a found cannon ball within the fireplace as a decoration.

Swiss Powder !! Nothing to Touch it These days Unless you can find British TPPH, the only L/R powder is Swiss No. 3 and in F/L shot guns GO TO No.1. No.1 won Me a number of World /Inter Gongs in the70's, 80's and 90's. BUT Be careful with self priming Flint locks. Use a Hammer glove until you are ready to shoot in an Important Comp as Referees may have you on Toast.. OLD DOG

Elephant powder worked and as demonstrated by @AAAPAUL, will still work after 30 years of storage. It's still a very dirty powder. But then, we have to clean our firearms after firing whatever powder we use.

GOEX was not being produced due to one of their plant explosions. KIK, Wano and Schuetzen powders were hard to find and Pyrodex was hard to get reliable ignition in many of our firearms. For a couple of years Elephant kept us making smoke. About the time their forest of alder wood for charcoal matured for black powder production with cleaner fouling, the property became more valuable for other purposes and Elephant powder ceased production as GOEX came back on line.

Side note, Triple 7 outperforms both Pyro P and Swiss, but is not reliable in sidelock muzzleloaders. Out of ten shots, I will regularly get a couple of hang fires using standard percussion caps. Triple 7 is fine for use in revolvers.
I burned a lot of T7 in my Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken. It is definitely a "hot" powder. With 90 grs of 2f and a .530 PRB, I was getting over 1900 fps, which was around 300 fps more than black, which seems to match your results for long guns.

I have gone all black now just to lessen types I keep on hand.

The one thing I did not experience with T7 was hangfires. While everyone can have the occasional hang fire, what I experienced with T7 was nothing out of the ordinary (rare). My caps have always been regular #11 Remington caps and Mountain State Mfg nipples.

Or, go bigger. Barrels have harmonics, which is why precision can vary so wildly across charges.

Or...you can pour it out in a pile, make a trail of powder to it, and flash it into a big black cloud. Be sure to film it and post the video here!

My Grandfather in-law was an FO at the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions in that battle. He stayed after the war with the occupation force in Germany. As an FO he was out in front of the allied lines all the time directing fire, and as such he ran across dead German officer's often. He would invariably commandeer their sidearms. He had a sack of twenty Lugers, FNs, and Walthers by the time the Germans surrendered. When it came time to get discharged and sail back home they told him that he could only register two (he selected an FN 1922, and as SS Nazi marked Luger) with capture papers, and he had to leave the rest. He said the guys in the barracks were constantly hounding him to give them one. Before he left he was holding the sack and told the guys to meet him at the latrine. In front of all of them he dropped them one by one into the latrine and told them, "If you want any of these pistols you can crawl through the same @!#$ I did to get them." He was a tough old ******* and he is missed. RIP B.Y.
In my opinion he was being a jerk to drop those pistols into the latrine. I'm sure the guys would have paid him for one of those pistols.

TPPH powders, made by WANO, disappeared around 2003...........................................

I was told that black powder will out last you if the powder doesn’t get wet or damp.
All I use is Swiss.
I have had excellent results using it.

I drove up to Friendship while I was in Indiana recently. They seemed surprised to see me at National Muzzle Loading Rifle Assocation HQ. But I was quickly able to join up and buy some sorely needed powder. They only had Swiss in 4f, so I got a 1 lb. bottle of that. Also picked up 1 lb. 2 bottles of Schuetzen. I've heard good things about it. We'll see how my CVA handles it.

You can't legally sell it if you want to get rid of it, but you can give it away.
I suppose you will have to define “business”, if I sell a car to my beloved neighbor doesn’t make me a dealership! If that was the case the ATF would have imprisoned hundreds at gun shows where they try to get $60 a pound!! Just a thought!

May I sell black powder without a license?

No. Anyone who engages in the business of selling black powder, regardless of quantity, must be licensed as an explosives dealer. [27 CFR 555.41(b)]

The law states a person can buy #50 or less and needs no license. So within the law a person can buy #50 and and split the cost and share with a group or sell off what they don’t need and still not be engaged in a business 😃

Tried it all. 30 to 90gr. 2fg, 3fg. Stuff shoots patterns. 1:28 to 1:66 twists, round balls, conical. Even had a buddy at rendezvous shoot it and he had no luck. Complained about sticky fouling too.
It’s strange that you have such opposing results as everyone else. I’ve not used Swiss but I’ve used Olde Eynsford by Goex, Triple 7, and Pyrodex P and RS, and I loathe the sticky fouling of Pyrodex. And it’s not potent enough for my revolvers so I wouldn’t use it anyway.
