Swiss is the only “purchasable” real blackpowder I will use. I mostly use 777 Fffg though, shoot my ROA a lot more frequently than my plains rifles. The ROA does not care what I feed it, from Fg to Ffffg, real or sub. If the powder is dry it will fire off.
I do not like Pyrodrek, at all, but if someone gifts it to me I will in fact use it. Dishwasher died, mouse chewed wiring, was so much easier to clean the revolver that way…

I will only use Swiss; it works well for me. As far as black powder going bad, I had a friend that was an EOD team member and every once in a while, he would be called to check out a fireplace explosion where someone had placed a found cannon ball within the fireplace as a decoration.
Swiss Powder !! Nothing to Touch it These days Unless you can find British TPPH, the only L/R powder is Swiss No. 3 and in F/L shot guns GO TO No.1. No.1 won Me a number of World /Inter Gongs in the70's, 80's and 90's. BUT Be careful with self priming Flint locks. Use a Hammer glove until you are ready to shoot in an Important Comp as Referees may have you on Toast.. OLD DOG
Elephant powder worked and as demonstrated by @AAAPAUL, will still work after 30 years of storage. It's still a very dirty powder. But then, we have to clean our firearms after firing whatever powder we use.
GOEX was not being produced due to one of their plant explosions. KIK, Wano and Schuetzen powders were hard to find and Pyrodex was hard to get reliable ignition in many of our firearms. For a couple of years Elephant kept us making smoke. About the time their forest of alder wood for charcoal matured for black powder production with cleaner fouling, the property became more valuable for other purposes and Elephant powder ceased production as GOEX came back on line.

I burned a lot of T7 in my Pedersoli Rocky Mountain Hawken. It is definitely a "hot" powder. With 90 grs of 2f and a .530 PRB, I was getting over 1900 fps, which was around 300 fps more than black, which seems to match your results for long guns.
I have gone all black now just to lessen types I keep on hand.
The one thing I did not experience with T7 was hangfires. While everyone can have the occasional hang fire, what I experienced with T7 was nothing out of the ordinary (rare). My caps have always been regular #11 Remington caps and Mountain State Mfg nipples.

TPPH powders, made by WANO, disappeared around 2003...........................................
I was told that black powder will out last you if the powder doesn’t get wet or damp.
All I use is Swiss.
I have had excellent results using it.

I drove up to Friendship while I was in Indiana recently. They seemed surprised to see me at National Muzzle Loading Rifle Assocation HQ. But I was quickly able to join up and buy some sorely needed powder. They only had Swiss in 4f, so I got a 1 lb. bottle of that. Also picked up 1 lb. 2 bottles of Schuetzen. I've heard good things about it. We'll see how my CVA handles it.
I suppose you will have to define “business”, if I sell a car to my beloved neighbor doesn’t make me a dealership! If that was the case the ATF would have imprisoned hundreds at gun shows where they try to get $60 a pound!! Just a thought!
The law states a person can buy #50 or less and needs no license. So within the law a person can buy #50 and and split the cost and share with a group or sell off what they don’t need and still not be engaged in a business

It’s strange that you have such opposing results as everyone else. I’ve not used Swiss but I’ve used Olde Eynsford by Goex, Triple 7, and Pyrodex P and RS, and I loathe the sticky fouling of Pyrodex. And it’s not potent enough for my revolvers so I wouldn’t use it anyway.
