Well they sure had some strange ideas for photo setup back in the day. I assuage its a pile of dead animals. On the other hand not like backing over a cliff taking a selfie!

I sort of get the rifles, but 4 pistols? Kind of doubt that was the normal for taking game.

From memory the otohp (grin) method was a Daguerreotype or some such.
Half or all the guns in that picture are probably photographer’s props.

Maybe not. Buffalo bill was a Remington guy and aspiring to get into show bizness so he may well have set the shot up himself.

Pretty certain the revolver on the lower right in the first image is an 1851 Navy. I’m stumped by the one on the lower left but it clearly isn’t a Colt and I sort of doubt it’s a Remington. British? Other European? Interesting and odd pic!

I think it is a Remington without the loading lever. Maybe the catch broke back then as well?

The best pair of '58 Remingtons I ever saw were part of a good friend's extensive collection.
They are originals and were carried and fired in battle by a Union Cavalry Lieutenant in the Civil War. Included with the revolvers is a 3-ring binder full of photos and provenance. I actually was allowed to hold and cycle them - gotta admit a shiver went down my spine thinking where those things had been and what they had witnessed.

I am planning a motorcycle tour of the west. Hopefully this spring ( Before I get to old) Intend to visit the Buffalo Bill center in Cody and the Museum of the Mountain man in Pinedale WY also the museum of the Fur Trade in Chadron Nebraska which I have never seen.

I have spent a fair bit of time in WYO and did not know about the mountain man museum :( although the last time I was there everything was pretty hectic with wildfires. we ended up doing a 1.5 day dirt road detour from Pinedale to Alpine jct as the regular road to Jackson was closed.. a few weeks before the fires.. did not easily find the fire detour shots. in a different computer..

Woke up to this which was pretty spooky not knowing what was happening or where. After a few hours we ran into someone going the other way who filled us in so we knew we could get through. Worst case scenario thers a river to lay down in.

I really like Vermont but wish I could take a two to 3 month roadtrip out west every summer. Skip black fly and mosquito season here.. you are within pretty easy striking distance from Wisconsin.
