I'm not a black powder guy by any means however I thought I'd start here since it seems like maybe a good place to start. Long story short, a golfing buddy of my brother passed away in October, https://www.darstfuneralhome.com/obituaries/Jim-Conyers?obId=33313383, read his obit if you have time, a real American hero, piloted fixed wing in Korea and rotor wing in Vietnam.
Anyway he was mainly a modern firearms guy and I helped his widow, Margie, dispose of a number of really nice handguns and rifles and also some custom knives, all at no charge - every cent has gone to her.
While he was stationed in Colorado in 1981 he purchased a 54cal Hawken made by Ozark Mountain Arms, it has a beautiful Birdseye maple stock and has never been fired, it has spent it's lifetime on the wall according to his widow. She gave me the receipt and it shows a AAA spec set option, whatever that means. He paid $805 delivered from the factory back then, I figure it's worth more than that now but no idea how much more. Here is a link to a fishing site that I'm on where I sold some ammo and knives for her https://www.dosfrios.com/ttmb/forum/main-category-2/main-forum-2/158789-estate-knives to kinda verify that I'm not some scammer. Anyway I would appreciate any guidance as far as what would be a fair price to ask so that she receives a decent price and the buyer a good deal without paying a middleman, and also guidance as far as where to try to sell it. I will probably post on the fishing forum Dosfrios but this is such a nice looking piece that I figured seeking guidance here first would be a good idea. I assume that there is some kind of mail/message deal on this forum that you can reply to me on here. Thanks in advance, Ken

So I've seen them sold, with lesser wood from what you describe, for $1500.00 in 2023. So as a guess, I'd say sell it for no less than $2000.00

What you need to do is take photos of the rifle so that the membership here can see its condition, including the bore. They can give you a better estimate after they see it, as I may be low-ball on my guess-timate. You will need to be a member here and make posts before you qualify to post a FOR SALE ad if you decide to sell the rifle here.

Now For The Forum Members:
This is NOT a For Sale Ad. So, do NOT make open offers to buy the rifle on the forum. He is asking for valuation of the item, for a widow, and as such is not the owner. Do NOT ask kodiako1 to PM you either. You, of course, may PM him if you wish.

Okay, I some pics and will attempt to post, also forgot to mention there is a really neat looking powder horn and plenty of documentation. Also the bore is dusty from hanging on a wall for years but the lands and grooves are sharp and crisp.

I highly doubt you’re going to get a buyer at 2k. Prices went high after Covid and they are heading downhill. If you get a 1500 offer you should get take it and run.

Thanks, this is the kind of feedback I’m looking for. I don’t want to give her any false hope.
Send it to Track of the Wolf and tell them you want $2000 for it. They'll put it up and sell it for her. Their price will be $2700 or so, but they've got some current percussion rifles not as nice for more. It'll be gone quick in the right market.

yes you can send it to Track but I would list it on broker you will lose less and your going to have to ship it anyway I do estate sales frequently for friends and family and it always does better then track
Thanks, I think that I will list it on here and also my fishing forum for a couple of weeks and if it doesn’t sell then go the GB route. I’ve purchased modern arms through GB but never sold anything there, hopefully it will sell locally.
