I read a post about using grease and it wasn't that big of a deal. When he got the ball out he removed the zerk fitting from the breech and just pushed the majority of the grease out. It wasn't that bad of a clean up. Good luck whatever you do.

Before pumping grease I'm going to take a look with a borescope. I'll update my findings as to what I see Monday. Hopefully I'll know for sure what's going on down there.
There is definitely something in that barrel. If you can't tell for sure what it is with bore scope, try shooting it out first (not a fan of the grease thing) Go to a shooting area, tie the gun down to a strong table or something. tie a string to trigger, put a cap on the nipple, step back a long way (30 ,40 feet) pull string. Just make sure no one is close to gun and gun is tied down strongly. If it doesn't fire,( go bang) pull nipple off get some powder, pour some in hole tap that powder in as much as you can, .put nipple back on put cap on, tie string back on trigger step back again, pull string. Doesn't fire out then do the grease thing. Manly telling you this because I have a place to safely shoot and try different things.

Over the last three days I've had the barrel full of bore cleaner, CLR, and soapy water soaking. Even if there is a load of powder in there, do you think it would ignite?

Just get a ball puller and pull that sucker out of there. The ramrod is not going to bounce on a loaded ball unless it was a steel ball. Lead doesn’t bounce. Get a ball puller and screw it into the load. Pull it out and see what you have. Probably a crusty ball and patch. Dump out the power and repeat until you have an unrestricted airway. You got this. It’s easy.

To clarify...not all at the same time...different soaks.

For a penetrate to get around the ball and make it easier to move, put some diesel down the barrel or stick the barrel in a jar and put diesel in it and let it sit a couple of days. Ball will come out much easier, using either the grease method or ball puller.

Another great penetrate is Blaster PB Penetrating Catalyst.

If using a ball puller, be sure not to make a hole all the way thru the ball or the grease method will not work if needed.

No.

Now that all those solvents have been applied, it's time for the grease gun.

Shooting the obstruction out isn't a stupid idea, but since you don't know what the obstruction is, and the charge has been suitably nullified by soapy water and bore cleaners, use the grease gun.

Remove the nipple to determine the thread pitch for the zerk fitting and push it out. The grease gun can apply more pressure to the obstruction than the compressed air you tried or using a CO2 discharger.

Very important! You don't know exactly what is in there. Evidently stuck pretty good. I would not take a chance on using a ball puller, putting a hole through the ball or whatever and ruining your chance of success with a grease gun. Then you may have to pull the breech plug which you rather not have to do.

I agree, if it's your rifle and you know what powder is in there and how many charges there are you are dealing with.

If it is an unknown rifle, with unknown powder and unknown number of charges, it's a stupid idea, when there are too many other alternatives for safely getting the obstruction out and not damaging the rifle.

Already done that...6MM new nipples . Got same 6MM grease zerks too.

I think you need someone to hold your beer & watch before trying that method of "removal"!

Only going on what Dixie Gun , and many videos said what was safe way of shooting a unknown gun. As well of doing that ar least 3 times myself. I have only 45+ years of shooting Black Powder guns. Yes not knowing for sure how it was loaded and with what is first thing to be considered . Sorry for my stupidity.
