Still relatively new to black powder and especially flintlocks. Flinters are now my addiction and a pure joy from the history to the community and ultimately the shooting experience.

I recently received my custom build from Kevin Blevins and couldn't be happier. He crafted what he referred to me as a pre-revolutionary era ridge runner as his take on a gun I discovered in a museum picture gallery. The original had parts and features of both English and French smoke poles as I understand field guns were frequently made from whatever was available. In fact, the sample had a French dragoon trigger guard on it. He expertly guided me as till we ultimately came up with my version. Learned a ton of history in the process as well. Not a true poorboy or trade but she is mine and beautiful.

She's a .62 with 39" rice smooth barrel. I added a rear sight (my choice), pewter cap and strap hardware which will be augmented by a woven strap I am currrently working on.

First time out at the range and experimented with shot loads, patched .600 and bare ball .610. All were a great experience, right on target and now it's up to me to figure out what she best likes.

I was so happy with the Robert Hughes pattern .50 I received from him I quickly jumped at creating this smoothie with him.

The fun has only begun...love BP!

That is a beautiful STUNNING gun and that stock is simply awesome. For deer that big 325 grain ball is the last word. I had a rear sight installed on mine and think it is an excellent addition.

Thank you...builder recommended and its great feature to enhance my accuracy. He had some great thoughts as we worked on this piece. First session was putting balls in 4" circle at 50 yards...now learning how to work up a load and such. Hoping to use her this deer season in Kansas if my plans work out..fingers crossed ;-)

Do you plan to put some sort of lube or “grease” in the grease hole? I did that to a Traditions Kentucky and an old Jukar because I liked the look and it was a feature found on some original southern guns.

So far, the grease holes with a mixture of beeswax and vegetable oil have worked just fine for me although it really scared a few people on here when I did it.😄

LOL...I am not quite sure as I have been reading around that bugs get attracted to the mixture while in storage. I'd like to use it for its purpose though at some point. I like the look of it and it was a feature of the original I modeled her on. Any issues with using it as intended in your experience?

I haven’t had any bugs, mice, dirt, aliens, gremlins or any of the other things people seemed to be afraid of. 😁
