    Colt is maybe the only company that you can go to and enter the serial number on your firearms. There have a site just for that. Google colt serial number lookup.

    Right side under chamber and above trigger, first stamp is proofing house, second stamp is PM which is the mark for Black Powder, then is your date stamp. It will be located on chamber also. I have an AF date stamp 1980
