    SOLD Buckskinning Book Set

I have volumes 1-5. It's been many years since I purchased those. I need to get the last three. I'll have to check--I don't know if Muzzleloader or Dixie still has them available.

    NMLRA 3-Year Memberships

I have been a member of NMLRA since the very early 90's. Two years ago I became a life member at the reduced rate due to my age, since at the time there were more expensive life memberships available. My membership card has my original member number on it, as well as a separate endowment life...

    Pedersoli Kentucky .50 Thoughts ?

My first flintlock was a .50 Pedersoli Kentucky I bought new in '91 or '92 for $250. I posted about my experience with this gun a few months ago so I won't go into the detail now I did at that time. The fit and finish are extremely good. The trigger pull is horrible and it uses those small...

How you fill your pan makes no difference ...

Some years ago I was tinkering with my Narragansett Early Virginia. It has the Chambers colonial lock and uses a 7/8 flint. I primed with 4f, 3f, and 2f and my human senses could tell no difference in the lock time. I'm sure one of those high speed cameras would pick up some difference, but...

My 1851 uberti navy arrived a day early.

What Mike says makes lots of sense. I had wondered about the Colt reissues which I believe were in the 70's and 80's. If I recall correctly Colt actually resumed the serial numbers from where they had left off with that model over 100 years earlier. I would have thought at least Colt would...

My 1851 uberti navy arrived a day early.

So far all of my cap and ball revolver shooting has been with a Remington new model army. I am a Civil War collector and have original 1851 Navy and 1860 Army I don't shoot so the arbor question on Colts was never a concern for me. About 2 months ago I purchased a Whitneyville Dragoon and...

    Real black powder

Things have changed so much over time. I just saw the post where only one place in Arizona has black powder. I bought my first replica black powder firearm, a Navy Arms Pietta Remington, in December 1980 while stationed at Fort Huachuca. It was at a store called the Emporium across the street...

How fast can BP revolvers be reloaded?

This has been addressed several times. I have read long ago that during the 1800's [not necessarily during the War Between the States itself but maybe more out west] spare cylinders were loaded and carried for quick reloads. However, I believe I read the cylinders were capped after being...

Frizzen not closing all the way.

When I got my first flintlock it was a Pedersoli Kentucky. Through experimenting I found that 1/2 flints work best with that lock. My rifle was shipped with a 3/4 flint, so I had that same problem. Don't rely on the manufacturer or distributor shipping the correct size flint.

    Kibler SMR range report

I love seeing a 5 shot group like that from a flintlock. Great shooting rifle and great shooting on your part as well. Thanks for posting.

Where to zero for 25, 50, 75, and 100 yard matches?

I guess it depends on what your primary use for the rifle is. For target shooting in a match and practice I usually try for the center of the 6 bull 8 ring black target at 25 yards. For me I am usually close enough at 50 with that. I usually up the powder 10-15 grains at 100 yards. Alot of...

What got you interested in flintlocks?

Several things happened in 1964 for me. I started the first grade, I still have the Bible my great grandmother gave me for Christmas that year, the original GI Joes came out and all the boys had to have one for Christmas, my aunt got married so my parents sold her their 1963 Impala and bought a...

    Pedersoli poor quality

I bought my Pedersoli Kentucky new in 1991, my first flintlock. Back then they were only $250, I think Dixie has them for $895 now. The parts to wood fit is perfect, but there is a rough spot right in front of the lock panel. I just ignored it. It was pretty accurate, but personally I was...

    Taylor Uberti better than Uberti?

I know that Uberti is in the title of this thread, but Pietta is being talked about as well, so I will ask this. I bought my first black powder replica in December 1980, which was a Navy Arms Remington New Model Army, called the 1858 Remington at the time, and I later learned it was made by...

    Hi from Charleston

I have been a member of the Charles Towne Longrifles for upwards of 30 years now, and am a former president, vice president, and many times over score keeper of the club. I have not been active in shooting recently and have not even been to our range since my wife passed away in January 2021...

WANTED 1862 Police 5.5" or 6.5" with round barrel, 36 cal.

Actually, at the same time I purchased the M1862 Police by Uberti I also ordered a M1849 Pocket Model along with two double pistol display cases, the correct powder flasks, and two replicas of the Eley cap boxes to display. The reason I got the M1849 pocket Model was to display with my...

WANTED 1862 Police 5.5" or 6.5" with round barrel, 36 cal.

Back in the summer I acquired an original M1862 Police made in 1867. About a week later I ordered an Uberti from Dixie to display with it. The Uberti is practically identical to the original.

    Priming from the Horn

I have also primed my .54 Early Virginia with 3f. In addition I have tried 2f as prime--in both cases I could not tell the difference in ignition time. I suppose there is some delay which one of those high speed cameras could detect, but my human senses could not. It has the Chambers English...

    50 or 54

Hello MB, There have been alot of good, and interesting, replies to your query. There was alot of discussion on when each caliber would be period correct--there's nothing wrong with that, but I don't think it was addressing your question. You said your rifle would mainly be used for target...
