    powder horn

I was looking into powder horn kits and I was wondering, If I want to put designs into it do I use a little wood burner like you use when you put designs into wood carvings? Or do you paint or what?

    Rough spots in barrel

When I try to ram a 50 cal ball down the barrel of my rifle it seems like there are rough spots. Should I run through some patches of bore butter or oil or what?

I was definatley going to make it flintlock. I was just looking around for a rifle that was commonly carried by trappers. I really enjoy history but could not seem to find much showing a common rifle. There is allot of false info out there and its hard to distinguish wether some of it is...

Hey thanks a ton for the replies. So i suppose many of the members of the fur trade companies used a pennsylvania long rifle type in large caliber than? I am looking at sitting fox and was looking for an accurate representation of that type of rifle. The way i have heard it sounds like many...

Well, I suppose it would be more of a free trapper type. I want a 45 caliber rifle probably. I understand that many used the North West trade rifle? Jim Bridger is a big hero of mine and would like to build a rifle he would have carried. Later in his life he is known to have carried a hawken if...

Are sitting fox muzzleloaders made of quality parts? They seem to be cheaper than TOTW or others. I am looking for a rifle that would have been used during the Rocky Mt. Fur Trade.

Which company (track of the wolf, jim chambers,etc...) has the easiest of the "kits" to build? I understand that all of them are just a collection of parts. I thought TOTW would be easiest just because its inletted for the barrell, and lock. I would be a first time builder so any help would be...

    sighting

I was wondering how exactly you used that smoothbore northwest trade gun like the ones from TOTW for deer hunting, when they dont have a rear sight? Do most people put on rear sights or do you just kind of guess?
  14. G

    Doing what I like best.

May I ask what type of rifle your using? She sure is pretty.

    Companies?

How hard to build are track of the wolf kits? We have all the tools necessary. From what I have read the kits require lots of filing and finishing of metal parts and sanding on the stock. I heard the stocks were pre-inletted but needed a lot of sanding and reshaping. I suppose I would have the...

    Companies?

Is jedediah-starr a good company to buy kit rifles from? I was looking at buying a fullstock hawken kit. How do these rate for difficulty. I am 16 and am really looking into a nice kit to build. Here is the link http://www.jedediah-starr.com/closeup.asp?cid=19&pid=116&offset=0 Thank you very...

My dad has a lyman trade rifle with a percussion lock. He wants to change it to a flintlock. Is there anyone who makes the replacement lock? I looked at L&R and the have replacement for the great plains. Do they have the same lock as the trade rifle? Thanks, Gunner

    Flints

HAHA i edited my thread because i did the degree measurement completely wrong. Im just thinking my flints are manure. They are american saw cut double edged flints off of track of the wolf. Im gonna try some Tom Fuller flints and see if my problem is solved.

    Flints

The rifle is about a year old and only has about 50-60 shots on it.
