    Powder Storage

How long can BP, Pyro, etc. be kept in powder horns and flasks? Should they be emptied after each shooting session and the powder put back in the original containers?

    Front Sight Blade

Yes, I was contemplating having a taller sight put in for the exact reason mentioned. However, I probably won't because the pistol is in excellent almost unused condition. Sure shoots high though.

    Front Sight Blade

Sorry. To clarify: Colt 2nd gen F-Series 3rd Model Dragoon.

    Working up a load

So, should I find the most accurate load with the current ball using one type of patch and then start playing with patches to see if it improves? Does the patch lube used effect accuracy? Thanks for all the help!

    Working up a load

I've been handloading for over 30 years for smokeless firearms but new to all of this. What's the best way to work up a good load for a percussion rifle?

These are my first BP firearms. The rifle is a Traditions Kentucky Rifle kit that I put together and the second is a Colt 2nd Generation F-Series 3rd Model Dragoon.

Been dragged to the Dark Side!

I've been shooting for almost 50 years and have carefully avoided what I always called the "Dark Side" namely muzzleloading and BP. Unfortunately I have a son with a sense of humor and feeling that I didn't have enough projects gave me a percussion rifle kit for Christmas. When I pointed out...

    Max load and brass frames

Several posts have mentioned that firing a lot of max loads will eventually loosen up pistols with brass frames. Does that apply to pistols with steel frames, brass trigger guards and backstraps like my Colt 2nd Gen F-Series 3rd Model Dragoon?

    Where does the lube go?

Thanks for all the help. I forgot that little bit about liquids (in this case a lube) not liking to be compressed and having to go somewhere. I guess this leads to another question though. When I load it up with 30gr of Pyrodex P, should I fill up the empty space completely with lube or can I...

    Where does the lube go?

New to BP/ First post. I've read where the pistol load order is powder, wad, ball, lube. The lube is to prevent chainfires and keep residue soft. I've also read that a tight-fitting ball prevents chainfires and that in the good ol' days no lube was used. Wouldn't a load order of powder, wad...

    Bending Brass

For Christmas my son gave me a Traditions Kentucky Rifle Kit. This is my very first experience with muzzleloading. I've done quite a bit of work on modern guns. The brass trigger guard needs to be bent in order to fit. It does not appear to be a case where minor inletting would do the job...
