    In the old Mountain State catalog, GM had a chart for different calibers. For .40 patching .15-.018., 40-60 grains 3f .395 ball for hunting and .400 ball for target.

    Using alcohol for cleaning bore ???

    I clean between shots using rubbing (Isopropyl) 30% h20, 70% alch. Has worked fine for years. Clean at home w/ same alchohol mixed w/ Birch. Casey 77. Dry bore. Use 90% isopropyl down bore, dry and coat with Birch. Casey Sheath. No problems, no rust. Use Fantastic as patch lube.

    Ignition Problem ???

    I bought a GM drop-in recently (38"x1", .40 cal.) and after five shots or so, got pop-bang hangs. I was using 50 gr 3f, CCI Magnum caps and hot-shot nipples. I think if you hold through on a popbang, it's still accurate. Anyway, GM thought I might be pushing crud in the flash chanel. I use alch...

    I bought GOEX at Cabelas in Dundee Mich. not too long ago. I think it was 18.99 lb. Dundee must be 30 or so miles from Toldedo.

    Green Mountain Barrels - what ball size

    On a spec. sheet I saw years ago in a Mountain State catalog, all the calibers were to use .015 to .018 with GM barrels.

    Re south Michigan: I've bought black powder (GOEX) in the last year from Schuhpacks in Jackson Mi., Johson's in Adrian Mi., and Cabela's in Dundee.

    40 cal loads?

    Years ago, the Mountain State ML catalogue had a loading chart for GM barrels. For a .40 it said to use 40 to 60 gr. of 3f, .015 to .018 patching, a.395 ball for hunting and a .400 ball for target.

    Thanks Bill and Zonie. Zonie - it looks like from your experience that it doesn't hurt to remove the drum after shooting and to clean and oil its threads - this doesn't cause it to get any looser, if youre careful, right? Thanks again.
