    Built a Range Box..

Very nice. Where did you get the wood inserts for holding your jag, puller, etc?

    Travel with Flintlock Rife

They appear to be nice cases, but beware that in my experience the sizes were either not as claimed or not well defined, and customer service was unresponsive.

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

Thanks Hermano and Rick. Any idea what the “65” carved inside the lock cavity in the stick means? Rick, does your replica have anything carved here? Thanks!

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

While cleaning my M1757 replica recently I noticed the number "65" written or carved into the wood behind the lock just below the end of the barrel. It is hard to see unless the angle of the light is just right so I had not noticed it before. Does anyone know what this denotes or have a similar...

    More Brown Bess Questions

Do you coat the parchment in wax yourself and, if so, how do you do this? Or do you purchase wax-coated paper? Does the wax make the remnants of the cartridge less likely to come out burning and potentially start a fire in dry grass?

    Sear Spring Pops Out

Thanks for the responses. I ended up cleaning out the slot with some very small files and repositioning the sleeve for the screw to stop the rocking as the screw is tightened, and it seems much better. To install the spring I leave the screw a bit loose with the tab off of the plate, then slide...

    Sear Spring Pops Out

I have a flintlock musket and the sear spring occasionally pops out, usually while removing the lock from the musket or testing it outside the musket. There is a rectangular tab on the lock plate side of the spring and a slot in the lock plate to receive this tab. The slot does not seem to be a...

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

As an update there were some issues with the interaction between the sear and trigger plate, but drilling a slightly offset trigger pivot hole fixed it nicely. An upon further inspection the breech plug is chambered, but not a patent chamber, just a smaller cylindrical chamber about 0.32" in...

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

I communicated with Ardesa. They had no specific records, but thought that the M1757 replica musket was “more than 35/40 years old”.

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

Hermano, since you were so helpful regarding the barrel markings, do you have any insight into the bayonet markings in the attached photo? I think this is from late 18th or early 19th century. Thanks.

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

Hermano, Are you aware of any period art showing the M1757? Are you aware of any period M1757 muskets on display in Spanish museums? Thanks

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

I didn't know about the Track of the Wolf archive. That is a great resource so thanks for sharing! Since someone brought up bayonets, the attached photo shows the top bayonet that came with the musket and which I was told came from TRS. The bottom bayonet is a period piece, likely from the late...

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

Thanks FlinterNick, can you provide the link to that Track of the Wolf page? I can't seem to find that on their website. Do you think that was a one-off sale by Track of the Wolf or did they sell more of these and, if so, do you know during what period they were sold?

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

Thanks for the American Society of Arms Collectors reference Notchy Bob. I had not seen that one. I do suggest Spanish Military Weapons in Colonial America 1700-1821 by Sidney Brinkerhoff though only a few pages are about this musket.

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

Thanks Hermano, that is great information! Does the symbol with the guard/guardhouse and the one with three stacked circles mean anything in particular?

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

Even the smaller internal parts seem historically accurate compared to period drawings.

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

Thanks Hermano. I attached a photo of the barrel markings. I would love to know more about the gun, dates, history, Ardesa, etc. Did Ardesa buy Mendi out or buy the rights to the musket design? Did Ardesa make the entire gun or just the barrel? Thanks!

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

Thanks O.R! My barrel is about 43.25". Which issues are you missing?

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

Thanks Notchy Bob. I believe another Spanish manufacturer named Mendi produced a similar musket, but I don't know If one manufacturer took over from the other at a later time, or they cooperatively or competitively produced them in parallel, or what. I would like to know about that if anyone has...

    Spanish 1757 Replica Musket

That would be great O.R.! I think muskets similar to this were sold in the US around the Bicentennial and for a while thereafter. The seller recalled it being 10-12 years ago, but I wonder if it may be older.
