    SOLD Lyman Deerstalker .50 Flintlock

Lyman Deerstalker .50 caliber flintlock It’s in great shape but has been hunted with. I have taken pictures of all blemishes (ding in the stock, both sights have some wear, barrel wedge pin area has dings). The bore looks good and it shoots good. I just want to try something different for a...

    Mounting Skinner peep on Renegade

It’s about an hour drive so I was hoping to avoid it.

    Mounting Skinner peep on Renegade

That’s helpful guys. Thank you. I won’t have the rifle for a few more days but I wanted to research what my options are. It’s a really long drive to a decent hardware store so I’ll try a jag first then commit to driving.

    Which thread pattern?

    Mounting Skinner peep on Renegade

I found a free Renegade that I am going to work on refurbishing. I would like to mount a skinner peep sight on it since it seems like most decent peep sights have been discontinued. Does anyone know what the thread pattern is for this hole? What is its intended purpose?

    Home Made Percussion Caps Review

Do you mean nobody has made the caps work or nobody has made speed loaders work with them?

    Home Made Percussion Caps Review

I was mostly wondering about tc speed loaders since I have a bunch of them. Really any capper is good though. It’s helpful to know that some of them work. I just wouldn’t want to have to carry them around in a pill bottle or something while hunting.

    Home Made Percussion Caps Review

I want to bump this back up to the top because I haven’t been able to find a n answer to my question. Has anyone been able to make their caps work with a speed loader or priming tool?

    Elk hunting max range.

The only one I’ve shot with a round ball was a .490 at 50 yards. The ball lodged under the hide on the opposite side. It went through a rib and a lot of shoulder meat but no big bone. I have a feeling that the rb will penetrate less the further out you get. They don’t expand a whole lot so...

Cow elk with a .50 flinter and rb

Cows knee is going to be the ticket for sure. I knew about them before but didn’t get around to making one before the hunt. Lesson learned. I definitely hope to keep a flintlock around for tighter woods and stuff. Plus it’s a ton of fun.

Cow elk with a .50 flinter and rb

Haha thanks. About 200 pounds deboned and packed out. A little rough on the knees.

Cow elk with a .50 flinter and rb

Nothing major but quite a few small things. Priming in the wind with snow coming down. Snow getting stuck in the crevices around the pan. Just being able to shoot a little further would help a lot. Those are the main reasons I want to try out a percussion too. I made a gun sock out of...

Cow elk with a .50 flinter and rb

Sure did. I had it strapped to the pack all day so there was no backtracking 11 miles to try to find it. I was pretty worried about it but apparently 7 wraps of tape is good enough. Thank goodness.

Cow elk with a .50 flinter and rb

This weekend I was lucky enough to kill a cow with my Lyman Deerstalker .50 and a patched round ball. Shot was about 50 yards. I hit slightly forward of the shoulder crease and she ran 90 yards downhill. The ball was bulging out the hide on the opposite side. Ive done a lot of hunting with a...
