That's funny, I was thinking doorstop too!

    Missouri Lead

Found this one that was in an online auction. Don't know if I trust the description.

I don't think the paint is original. The field I found it in had not been planted in over 50 years. We were cleaning it up to plant a food plot and dug it up with a disk.

    Missouri Lead

"Missouri" is the only words on it. I know there was a lot of CW activity in the area. Thought this stamp would be the trade mark for a lead mine/foundry that may tell it's age. The only other activity in this area since the CW would be farming. It is also very close to the Alabama river, but I...

1:48 twist - Patched round ball troubles

A 1:70 twist would have corrected that 2nd shot, its about .22 of a twist off....

Need Guidance on Damaged Cherry Corners Lock Hammer on Older Contemporary Hawken

I believe I would heat it up and bend it back straight very carefully. Then Braze it back solid. Grind smooth and refinish. I read somewhere that Bud Brown built some muzzleloaders, but was primarily a gunsmith. B.C.B may be his stamp.

Does anyone have any information on the age and what factory this may have come from. Was found in a field behind a house that was built in the early 1800's in Selma,AL. Not sure why it would have been painted blue at some point either? Weights around 5 lbs. Thanks, Crockford

    Shooting all by one’s lonesome

I shoot alone in my backyard mostly. I use to shoot with a group of older gentlemen mostly squirrel hunting with BP only. They would not allow cartridge guns. I still remember the first time shooting with them. The test was to hit a coke can on a fence post at 50 yards. I remember being very...

I'm surprised you can even target practice with lead!

    GPR vs Mountain Rifle

I have the GPR in .54. It shoots very well and one can be had at a good price point. Parts are available, if you should need any. I think for practical purposes it is hard to beat. If wanting one that will have a better collection value, go with the Browning. CVA should be the cheapest in cost...

    Uberti Hawken

I have SN#2673. It shoots a .526 ball really well. .530 is to tight to load in my gun. I believe all the Western Arms Santa Fa rifles are .53 cal. I have no idea what sight that is. I would try to replace with the original sights if possible.

    50 vs 54 FlintLock Rifle

I like most folks have both. Both will kill the same on a white tail. If I was struggling between the two, I would go with the .54cal. You never know if one day you might go on an Elk or Bear hunt and at that time you would probably wish you had the larger caliber. I have squirrel hunted with a...

    "Hawken" flintlock

The auction has a bid estimate $28,000 to $35,000. Definitely out of my reach!

    "Hawken" flintlock

I have seen it asked several times, did the Hawken's make a flintlock? This is not a J&S but it is a Christian!
