I'm sorry I should have specified that they are single shot muzzleloading pistols.

    .44 Caliber Pistol Ball?

I have two .44 caliber pistols that I haven't fired yet but I haven't made up my mind what ball size to use. I guess a .430 ball would be ideal to start with, but the closest thing I've seen to buy is .429. Close enough? or should I try .433 or drop down to .424?

    Powder Horn Shavings

Okay I freely admit, I'm dumb. I bought a powder horn and used it today for the first time. Filled it with powder, went to the range, and fille the powder measure. Guess what I see, mixed in with my powder are lots of horn shavings and some wood shavings. :( I said to myself "Self, that was...

    Italian Barrel Markings

Thanks very much for the info, I had no idea this barrel dated from 1971. Incidently, if the barrel is stamped with the Pedersoli stamp, was it marketed by them?

    Italian Barrel Markings

I have a brass pistol barrel marked "Made in Italy" with a Pedersoli Dav stamp. It also sports a "XX7" stamp and two other stamps. One stamp is "PM" with a star over it and other looks sort of like a shield with crossed sword and musket with a star over that. Anyhow, does this mean anything...

    CVA .45 hawken

My .45 CVA Kentucky likes .440 balls and DGW pillow ticking. My CVA "You Can Shoot It" booklet that came with the kit says the maximum charge is 75grains of 2F. I use 50grains for up to 50 yards and 60grains at 100.

    Dog Lock?

Saw something interesting at my town's weekend festivities. A gentleman had a blunderbuss and a very large pistol with a strange looking flint and frizzen lock, he said they were "dog locks". If I understand what he said the "dog" was an external lever that acted as the half cock. Can anybody...

    Ballistol and other lubes.

I run a patch wet with Cleaner Degreaser down the bore before shooting to remove any oil residues and I haven't had any problems.

    What is a Buggy Rifle?

They should have called them the "Sunday go to Meeting" rifle.

    What is a Buggy Rifle?

That is a great story. I wonder if country doctors usually had them? It kind of makes sense since they frequently went around in buggies and didn't normally have a need for a firearm.

    What is a Buggy Rifle?

Thanks for the pics! There seems to be a lot of designs for a "buggy rifle". It probably just refered to any short handy rifle you could stow under the seat of your buggy in case you had protect yourself or your horse for some reason. I googled buggy rifle and a couple of interesting guns...

    What is a Buggy Rifle?

Most of the time I've seen the term refer to a underhammer, but I'm guessing it not limited to underhammers.

    What is a Buggy Rifle?

I've seen the term "buggy rifle" several times it seems to refer to a firearm that looks like a long pistol with a attachable shoulder stock. Is that correct? Why were they called buggy rifles?
