    .29 caliber

It'd be cheaper just to cut your own patches. I just cut 1.5" for everything. They start getting a little tight in 36 and under since there is so much excess. From there I cut them in 4ths at .75".They work fine from 36 down to 25. If you end up with a little smaller ball then you would like...

    New rifle

The old timers here eat the brains in squirrel head dumplings. Shooting heads are a no no, here you give them to the old people that are unable to hunt. Popping them in the middle really doesn't have any useful meat to eat anyhow. At least that goes for the gray squirrels here. With a little...

    unloaading the rifle

I live in the humid south and never worry about pyrodex getting to much moisture in it from the humidity. When hunting in the rain I put some lube on the bottom of the percussion cap where it meets the nipple. I don't cover the bore at all in the rain. The lube (1/2 beeswax and alox with some...

    patch size

I just cut 1.5" squares and shoot them in everything from 40 to 58.

    I bought three rifles

With the rengade, mine likes the lee real 250 gr in pure lead and 60 gr target 90 gr hunting. For the balls .495 and blue jeans lubed in 1/2 beeswax to alox over 50 gr for target and 80 gr hunting. Both bullets and balls shoot better with an over powder wad of cardboard for me.

T/C single trigger: Way heavy, strong main?

How about pulling your renegade spring and trying it? If it gets it to where you want it then fine. Most likely the heavy spring would work fine as well on the renegade if it has a set trigger, problem solved. If it's the hunter model renegade with single trigger then you could just order...

New to ML-Am I doing it right?

Well manure I just found out I'm unethical. Guess I'll have to start poaching them with the muzzleloaders instead of hunting them.

New to ML-Am I doing it right?

Those groups are pretty big. Sounds like it must have a 1-48" twist barrel. If you want to go with bullets the shorter 250 gr real bullets from lee would match the twist better. The big groves in muzzleloader bullets are for lube. That's a subject all in itself, most folks mix their own or buy...

Greetings, Hawkens, Trades, and Mike Lange

About every post has just been Mike's work. Folks can't really argue about that. I didn't see the fellow's integrity mentioned. I have seen him post on srewing something up and it slipping by and him making it right without any exscuses paying shipping both ways. I have also seen adults try out...

    T/c cracked stock

As for not fact I have read some stories online where folks have sent in their gun and get a very low sum compared to actual market value. This is after the custom shop was closed which handled repairs on the traditionals. I heard that S&W bought out their tooling, so that may be interesting in...

    T/c cracked stock

Would advise contacting them only and not shipping a gun to T/C they have been screwing folks over lately, refusing to repair, sending a meek check and refusing to send the gun back. They don't make anymore traditional items at all. I've seen several stories where the check sent was 3-400 under...

Greetings, Hawkens, Trades, and Mike Lange

I'm assuming the reason for the numrich barrel is cost. The last I saw they were $50. No doubt he could put in a Colerain or something if someone wanted to pay more. Not knocking Mike at all, he probably has more experience with traditionals than a lot of folks, definately a lot more than I do...

    000 Buckshot in 36 Cal?

For shooting I wouldn't worry to much about it. With soft lead like we use in muzzleloaders by the time we are done loading in many cases the only round part still left is the powder charge side. We've squished it into the rifling, making it bulge that way, and flattened it a bit with the short...

    Pedersoli

I can't comment on parts or service because I've never had anything break. They are known for their good quality. I have some of them and they do fine. I would say their barrels are a cut above average. The ones I have are all very good shooters.

    nipple won't come off

Not knocking anyone else,s method. All are fine. Thought I'd copy and paste a test they did on the penetrating oils. I mix half atf to acetone in a spray bottle. I like that the cheapest one works the best. A study done by Machinist's Workshop magazine in their April 2007 issue looked at...

    36 cal. maxiball.

Yeah that sounds about right on the weight. I've shot coyotes and small pigs with them. They are illegel here on deer so I have no idea. They would deliver about the same as a 130 gr prb in a 45 if the velocities were the same. The bullet may actually hold on to velocity a bit better at the far...

    round ball patches

Pillow ticking is what most folks use. Something with a tight weave that is dense. Also the thickness plays into it. You can generally get better accuracy with thicker patches but it gets harder to load the thicker you go. A lot of folks shoot for .015 thick patches with a ball .01 under ie a...

    nipple won't come off

Mix half atf to half acetone. Put a little on the threads and let it soak in. Most of the time an hour later is fine. I have ran into a few that were rusted in and still wouldn't come out the next day. Just added more penetrating oil and let them sit another day and they came out. Make sure to...
