    New powderhorn, need advise

I am making me a new powderhorn. When I bought the raw horn I bought it for it's beautiful shape. Now that I am at the point that the powder canal needs to be drilled, I'm not sure I can do so without drilling through the side. I had thought about using a long bit through from the butt, then...

    Serious question.

Hey Maxiball, Two years ago my wife was diagnosed with a very rare cancer. It was called LeioMyoSarcoma. Her Dr at MD Anderson said her prognosis was," an 80% chance the cancer would return in two years. If the cancer came back in that time period, she had a 0% chance of living five years. She...

One flint(lock) to rule them all!

My one choice would be my Caywood R. Wilson English .62/20 "Chiefs Grade" trade gun. It has a 41 1/2" barrel. It comes on point very quickly, feels balanced, not heavy. This is my second fusil. I ordered it 3 wks ago it arrived this Tues., how's that for service? Regards, charlie47

    Transitional Comparison

Hi Zonie, Thanks for the comparison. It is my first exposure to the Franklin Co. To my eyes it looks like a Bedford Co. Also it has some of the outline of the Pedersoli/Cabela's rifle. A close friend has an Armstrong, early 1800s. That rifle really comes up and feels great to me...

    ball mold

Hi sharps4590, Sorry you had such a bad experience with the Rapine bag mold. However, my experience was just the opposite. Once again if someone is looking for a period bag mold, Rapine has it. Mine was excellent, so was their service. I bought that one direct. The feller that made your mold...

    Hammer Stalls

Hey Musketman, You are certainly a "cool" dude, VERY knowledgeable about "blackpowder" arms and I can't forget funny. However, according to your picture sir, as bad as I hate to say it, You are as "ugly as ugly on a ape", only my opinion. Regards, charlie47

    Just ordered my first smoothbore

Congradulations on your new smoothbore. I'm sure you'll have a great time with it. The rear sights will probably make things easier. The only negative might be keepin' you out of Trade musket matches. They are a lota fun. I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun anyway. Regards, charlie47

    Dream rifle?

I think my dream would be one of the Caywood Crockett rifles, it would certainly only be a dream at $12,500. I have seen and felt a really nice Armstrong. I can truthfully say I never had rifle that felt so natural. Regards, charlie47

    Vent liner verses plain hole

I would certainly defer my opinion to those of you with MUCH more experience. I've only owned two flinters, a GPR with liner. It worked great, I thought it made for easy cleaning. Then came the Caywood Wilson Chiefs Grade. Of course you know it had no liner. I can't imagine any faster or more...

    Issac Haines rifle

Hi Deadeye, I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions. Is this a kit or were the parts purchased individually? Who did you purchase the parts from? The word you did is great! I really admire the work. Regards, charlie47

    Caliber (bigger means' better?)

Hi Spot Shooter, Welcome to a marvelous sport! I started with the same rifle you did. I had the same good opinion that you did. I'm a traditionalist, but that's why there are so many choices not everybody is like me. As to your question, yes the musket is smoothbore, and a lotta fun it is...
