More thoughts on the knife making process

That's the way they do the tempering on true samurai swords. The entire back of the blade is covered with a type of clay, except for a wavy line along the edge. When the tempered blade is cool the clay is brushed off, leaving the wavy line pattern( called a HAMON) which is harder than the back...

    Home made tinder tubes..

For cotton rope, go back to Wally World and look for a package of curtain cord, in the fabric dept. It's the stuff they sew into the bottom hems of curtains, to give them some body without making them stiff. 100% cotton, with the netting around it. I made up 7 tubes, and still have enough cord...

Can you mix up ffg and ffffg ?

Problem is, as I see it, that given the way Olympic competitors gadget up their equipment in order to get the best possible scores(look at what Olympic archers hang all over their bows!) the idea of using a sidelock would prob'bly give them the fantods(they're SOOO inaccurate and...

Quite possibly the worst movie of all time

Film was called "Scalawag", another version of Treasure Island, but moved to the coast of (I believe) Baja California, and upped to the 1840's or so. Dumb movie, but Douglas did the "endearing rogue" bit pretty well, IMHO.

    100% firing?

There are plastic hooks, made for offices, dorm rooms and the like, that use removable adhesive pads to stick things to walls and other places. Some of them are strong enough to hold up medium weight mirrors! Look for them in Home Depot, Staples, etc. May not be the best answer, but what the heck.

    Newbie Question

You mentioned that you use a nipple adapter and plastic tube for cleaning your caplock(s). There's something like that available for flinters, too; you take the lock off, and there's a C-clamp-like affair that fits around the barrel, with a rubber gasket that you tighten on over the touch hole...

    Today I made fire

Every time I go to demo events, rondys open to the public, and renfaires, I make it a habit to light up my pipe( a couple times, at least) using flint, steel, and tindertube. Freaks out the mundanes. I tell them it's a primitive Zippo lighter!

    Baker Rifle

Try The Discriminating General. I believe they have working Bakers. Don't quote me, though.

    Chili

Recipe I found said to use meat chunks cut up small(said to use venison; use beef only if you couldn't get the real stuff!). I also bridle at the thought of putting beans in my chili. When I make chili at home(at least I call it chili) I have to leave out the peppers, garlic, and onions, as the...

    Hemp wrap

Have you tried using epoxy on the handle where the twine is wrapped, or would something so modern sorta ruin the effect?

    Some basic questions

AFAIK, unless you're using conicals(or them %$*#@#! modern bullets!) the only difference is in how you make it go "boom".

    Striker's Delivered

Hey Mikey!(I hate that name! Heard it applied to me too many times) Anyway, I need a striker for a new kit I'm putting together. As soon as I have the disposable income, I'm going to order one from you. I really like the way they look, and I'm tired of getting strikers from the usual...

    Sprue cutting for dummies

How about: put the balls into an empty coffe can, put the lid on, and roll it around for while. Wouldn't that be just as effective as using a tumbler? :hmm: Anyone who can't find a coffee can must always be going to Dunkin' Donuts (or Starbucks!)!
