Celebration: I have found a left handed .45 cal rifle

I can't help you with load data (other than quoting my Lyman manual), but I would like a description of what you bought. Tell me more! Dave

    Roundball

I would keep it too. Nice example of when everything works out right. Dave

    Nice Weather

The weather here has been wet and cool. Today it rained in the morning and the wind was gusting up to 40 mph. I will hold out for spring. Dave

What's your favorite style of muzzleloader

I've been reading Walter Cline's book, "The muzzle loading rifle, then and now" and I'm really liking the look of some of the early Kentucky style rifles. It looks like many of them were between .36 and .45 caliber. Dave

    Roundball

I thought that was a silver dollar and figured the ball must be a big 'un. So, you gonna remelt it and get another deer or keep it as a souvenir? Dave

    New rifle on the way...

Thanks! A guy at work gave me that very suggestion today. There is a large black powder club in town and I'll call, if not join. Dave

Thanks for the link. I'll see if I can find it locally, and if not, I'll order it. Dave

    New rifle on the way...

Ok, you guys have convnced me. I'll go buy a can of Goex 3F and one of 2F and do some shooting. Now I have to find out where to buy it. The sports stores near me have all dropped BP and stock Pyrodex and Triple 7. There is a gun store down the street aways... Dave

    Add One More Traditonal M/L'er

Isn't that the truth! My eyes were great until I turned 43 - then comes reading glasses and worse. I can usually hold my own shooting with my 16 yr old son, I have lots more patience and I don't flinch too much. He always does better when we shoot air rifles or .22s. Dave

    Roundball

Wow, that ball looks darn near perfect. Is that a .58 or is it bigger? Dave

    Add One More Traditonal M/L'er

Good deal! I'm taking my 16 yr old son out tomorrow for his first time shooting a muzzleloader. I hope to make him a shooting partner. Dave

    New rifle on the way...

Jethro224, Thanks for the info. I would really like to shoot a flintlock one day, just to see what it is like. The lock time of my percussion rifle took a while to get used to - I not so sure I am really used to it yet. A flintlock must be interesting to say the least. :hmm: Seems like a...

    New rifle on the way...

Grass Green? Huh? I'll be starting with RP, it seems to work great in my .50 Hawken. I really should buy some BP to try. The manual recommends 2F. The gun is a 1:66 twist and I have a few boxes of .490 and .495 ball on the bench. I'll try that first. Dave

    Roundball

Help me out here. Since RB dumps energy fast while traveling through the air, won't it dump it's energy even faster in the target? The poor drag coefficient works the same when traveling through air or fluid - right? :hmm: Are through shots common with RB? Dave

    New rifle on the way...

I am hoping the gun will be fine from the git go, but if not, what the warrantee doesn't cover, I will. I figure I will add a coat or two to the finish and go from there. I'm hoping to one day take a Javelina with it. BTW, I bought a .50 caliber. Dave

    New rifle on the way...

I just ordered a Lyman Great Plains rifle from the possible shop. I bought this one finished as it took my several years to finally finish my CVA Hawken. Too many hobbies! Thanks the the fine folks here that helped me pick this gun. Dave
