    Wind and primer

.... and what, in your opinion is "a well-made lock"? And - what would be a poorly made lock? Are we talking brands or styles? Inquiring minds .....and newbies to flinting want to know. IM jaybe

    Percussion Ignition Problem

Not to beat this to death, but one time I tried drilling out a nipple - - ended up twisting that tiny drill bit off in it. Not only did I have to buy a new nipple anyway, but also the drill bit! Save the bit - buy a nipple :m2c:

    Percussion Ignition Problem

Hmmmm - correct me if I'm wrong Bezoar - but I think you were referring to the top part of the nipple where the cap fits on, not the hole at the bottom. That is usually only a very small hole - even on the "hot shot" nipples. But the bottom hole IS about twice as large on the hot nipples - and...

How were pressures measured in the 1800's?

I believe there were three ways for measuring pressures in the 1800's: 1. "Nope, that's not enough powder" 2. Yup, that seems about right" 3. "Ooops!" No, really - all seriousness aside - I don't have the slightest idea. Just felt like saying somethin'. :haha: Hope you get a more...

    Cleaning while hunting

I have left my Hawken loaded for a number of days without removing the powder and projectile - just remove the cap. I also do two additional things when I do this: 1. Put an old sock over the muzzle (everybody has one without a mate - "the washing machine ate it" :haha:) - I do this to remind...

Average Price of a Lyman Zouave

I was at a gun store today and saw a Lyman Zouave .58 cal on the rack for $300.00. It was a percussion - I say that because I don't know if they made it in flint or not. A casual look showed it to be in fair condition - the stock appears to have been refinished and coated with a high gloss...
