    Unload at end of day?

I am not so sure I would try the plastic wrap over the nipple before seating the cap. My experience has been that the cap becomes wet and will not fire, the powder charge has been fine (when hunting in a driving rain). I have read on this forum to paint the inside of the caps with clear nail...

    TC Question?

The only muzzleloader I own is a TC hawken percussion 45. I love this rifle. It is a great shooter and I have harvested many a deer with it. I have had to track a few deer (heart and lung shot) for 100yds. One deer who was heart shot with the conical breaking it's front leg on the exit side...

    T/C Maxis for hunting?

Hey there Kirrmeister. I have found that TC's Maxihunters shoot much better in my .45 cal. TC Hawken. They shoot as accurate as a roundball out to 80 to 100 yds. They are 255 gr. as compared to the maxiball at 245. The maxiballs do okay but I find that they shoot a bit higher through the mid...

    Coyote today

Deer, turkey and squirell have been hard pressed in my area. We had a bad drought in summer 2007, the deer were hit by some sort of bacterial hemmoragic disease which the dry watering holes compunded the problem by placing more of them at water that was available. Before the drought in the...

    Coyote today

You should have seen the first one that came through. It was twice as big as the one I shot, long and lanky...looked a lot like a timber wolf. Wish I could have shot that one! The one I did shoot (pictured) does have more reddish fur but is about twice as big as the red or grey foxes we have...

    Coyote today

I was deer hunting. The coyotes were a major distraction for the day however.

    Coyote today

I was sitting on a log overlooling a saddle where trails come in from all directions. I heard what I thoght was a squirell coming in from my right side. All of a sudden a big coytoe was right in front of me walking fast (like 10 feet in front of me!) I cocked my 45 cal TC Hawken and the big...

REAL Bullets in T/C 45 caliber

TC,s 255 gr. Maxihunters shoot real well in my TC 45 cal. Hawkin with 80 gr. powder. Buffalo Bullets 325 gr. hollow point, flat base bullet does well too, just not quite as flat shooting as the TC Maxihunter. I heart shot two deer this season with 45 Hawkin and the TC Maxihunters. One was at...

    Hello from TN

Welcome. I live in Pleasant Shade TN. Just moved here a hear ago from Ohio. These guys on this forum have accurate information and I have gained from being here as you will too. I am shooting a TC Hawken with 1-48" twist. IMO that's the twist to get if you want to be versatile!

    Best Miss Story

My first hunt on my farm here in Tennessee! I walked into the woods at first light. A nice doe walks in front of me just a hundred yards in. I raise my muzzleloader, take careful aim for a double lung shot at 30 yards! I squeeze the shot off and pow instead of kaboom is heard, not much...

    RS vs. P in rifles

Thanks guys. I think I am going to give the pyrodex P a good trial. Does anyone drill the bottom hole of their #11 nipples to be just a hair larger?

    RS vs. P in rifles

Hey there Huntnut, are you using #11 caps? Is there a pickup in velocity with the P that possibly one would want to use a lesser load than with the RS?

    RS vs. P in rifles

I am getting into serious hunting with my TC Hawken .45 percussion 1-48" rifle. I have used real black and Pyrodex RS. Black Powder is much harder to purchase for me than Pyrodex and I do get comparible shooting from the Pyrodex RS. I have had a couple of hang fires with the RS (#11 caps) and...

    Conical bullet lengths

I have used 325 gr., flat base Buffalo Bullets in .45 cal in my 1/48 twist TC hawken with very acceptable accuracy. Never had a tumbler so the twist appears to stabilize the bullet fine. I would guess that a faster twist would even shoot them better? I have not taken any deer with this bullet...

    new guy

I am a retired guy living in Tennessee. Finally have time to spend in the woods. Bought my .45 TC Hawken back in 70 but didn't get to use it much till now. I am hunting deer, squirell and rabbit with it. Glad I found this forum to help hone my skills.
