    New cannon-maker in TX

Thanks.. Here's a closer view of the guns. They were built for a Civil War 'Ironclad' replica, used in reenactments here in Jefferson. Of course, they end up being used for other events as well. Closer view Civil War 'Ironclad' replica heading up river --OK2Smoke

    New cannon-maker in TX

YES...a field carriage is definitely more of a project. Actually all of the metal parts when made by hand, are more of a challenge than the wood. Same thing for these Naval guns. We had the help of a first class machinist, and he had to make some special tools for forming the trunnion caps...

    New cannon-maker in TX

The tubes for the guns in the photo below were purchased through John Martin in Houston. They are made of seamless steel tubes with pressed-in welded breach plugs, then cast in aluminum resulting in a tube that is around 36" long with a 2" bore weighing around 70# just like the ones you saw...

    Memorial Day in Jefferson, TX

We fired five Falconets in honor of the five branches of service yesterday in Jefferson's Memorial day Services. The guns were built this year for a Civil War 'Ironclad' used in a river 'Naval Battle' reenactment. Included are a couple of pictures of that as well. There are some videos on...

    Help with Manufacturer

Actually regarding the idea that it might be an 'early Pietta', The cylinder is almost exactly like the current Piettas, in fact a Pietta cylinder will fit and index perfectly in this gun. On the other hand the company that produced this piece may have been a small Ma and Pop operation...

    Help with Manufacturer

The only other marks on the gun are a s/n 410...one under the barrel and the other on the grip frame as in the photo below. I strongly suspect this gun may have been a 'kit gun' and other marks may have been filed off in the finishing of the gun. The guy I got it from said when he got it the...

    Help with Manufacturer

At first I thought it might need some parts as the action was not very smooth. Took it apart and dressed the top edge of the cam on the hammer, spread the fingers on the bolt a bit, dressed the top edge of the bolt, cleaned everything up, put it back together and now it's working great. Action...

    Help with Manufacturer

Thanks Wes/Tex...you put me on the right track to search. Found a post by "pbrevolver" from a couple of years back with some good info quoted below; "The Patersons appeared in the mid 1960’s with the markings of Mofra and the Double Diamond. It is interesting that the Mofra marking has only...

    Help with Manufacturer

On a previous post I asked about possible manufacturer of this pistol but did not have any photos. It was imported by Richland Arms and most suggested that EuroArms was probably the source. In searching I find that their pistols were made by multiple manufacturers, Palmetto, Armi San Paulo and...

    New Naval Gun

I don't think Tom is selling these. He is making carriages and supplying them to the guy who he gets the tubes from. I think that guy is in Houston and is probably selling complete guns. I'll try to get his contact information from Tom. --John R.

    New Naval Gun

Mr. Moss in Jefferson, TX just finished up a new naval gun on the order of a '1/8 scale' Revolutionary war 32 pounder. It has a 16" tube with a 1" bore. It made a nice little bark with some blank loads. He hasn't shot a live round in this one yet. I acquired a tube and will be making a...

    Interesting Colt Navy

Probably was all filed off in final finish and assembly. Whoever blued it did a professional job. Looks like really high quality hot-blue type process as the finish is very dark and deep. I admit...I lucked out. Now I'm debating whether to shoot it. :hmm: --John R.

    Interesting Colt Navy

I'm almost embarrassed to tell you what I got it for...Got it from a friend who owns a gun store and he let me have it for what he gave the person who brought it in. One crisp $100 bill. The guy at DGW was pretty sure it was a EuroArms gun, if in fact they sold it back when their catalog sold...

    Interesting Colt Navy

I recently acquired a beautiful little Colt Navy which is a bit of a mystery. It came in what is probably the box it was shipped in, but there is no identification left on the box. Inside however was a note from DGW (Dixie Gun Works) with a new catalog price of $2.00. The folk at Dixie said it...
