    First Attempt At Moose Milk

Nice. Great info and knowledge learning here. I also appreciate the feedback towards my question. Which does indeed bring up a question that may have jokingly been answered a couple of posts ago. While at work today I was honestly wondering about food coloring added to my mixture shown in the...

    54 Caliber Patch Diameter

I apologize for a second topic so quickly, but this week I will be getting some patch material and was wondering what the diameter of patches are for both 50 and 54 calibre muzzleloaders. There was none available locally, so I could not measure them. I also did a search online and the best I...

    First Attempt At Moose Milk

Ok. Thank you for clarifying that. I had read it online somewhere, and copied the image for the recipe and is where I had read that. But with someone very knowledgeable in this area, I will believe it and try to make that version tomorrow. Thanks again.

    First Attempt At Moose Milk

So, tonight I made my first batch of Moose Milk using water soluble cutting oil. I made a half batch as a trial run. 2 oz water soluble cutting oil 1/2oz Murphy Oil Soap 3 1/2oz 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (all I had) 8 oz bottled water And here is the result. I am hoping that someone could chime in...

    Patch And Wad Questions

Great, thank you. I was not too sure of patch size best suited to which caliber of rifles, but now thanks to you I do know. I agree that a square patch is easiest to do.

    Homemade Nipple?

Thank you again. I know it is not cost effective by any means, it's just that it is coming upon winter here and I like to play with such things like this. I am a tinkerer by heart... Anyways, thank you all again.

    Patch And Wad Questions

Well, some good news. After a couple of phone calls, I have located a fabric store that has 4 varieties of 100% cotton pillow ticking! Good news, now the bad. I have to wait till next Thursday to go there. But I will be going there, digital calipers in hand to measure. I am not sure of pricing...

    Patch And Wad Questions

Ok. Thanks for the quick responses. I will discard of the felt I bought and resort to trying out the cardboard. I wish I could shop at Walmart, but up here, they do no longer carry fabric. Only small pre-packaged swatches. Also, no Hobby Lobby either. It looks like we are getting bent over the...

    Patch And Wad Questions

Bonus stupid question! :headslap: Do I 'lube' cardboard over powder wads punched from the aforementioned boxes?

    Patch And Wad Questions

Hi again. As I ready myself to try out patch and ball in my muzzleloader, I have a question regarding patch and wad materials. Now I have found pillow ticking here, BUT, it is only in .010 thickness. What are my best other options for patch material. The only other one I saw mentioned here was...

    Finished T/C New Englander

Thanks for both the compliments and the info regarding others having the same 'hammer feature'. It at least puts me a bit more at ease knowing it is not just me or my rifle.

    Powder plug in barrel

Although probably not correct, but recently I had a cleaning jag stuck hard down in my 54 New Englander and I too needed to remove it. What I did was screw a long screw with the correct thread into the end of the ramrod sticking out the barrel, then clamped on a pare of vise grip pliers and...

    Homemade Nipple?

Thanks all. I was well aware that it would not be a cost saver, just more-a-less wondering if it had been done or how it worked. I will look up Track Of The Wolf and see if they will ship gun parts to Canada, as I vaguely remember something about shipping or bringing gun parts across the border...

    Homemade Nipple?

Just a crazy question I am wondering about. Nowhere locally has any nipples in stock, nor did they know when they would get them in again, or if they were. So, as I have a T/C with #11 percussion nipple with 1/4 x 28 thread, is it possible to make a replacement nipple, or has anyone done it before?

    Finished T/C New Englander

No problems. I will live with it. I don't want to change anything. It is just a paper shooter. Or at least that is what I am saying now....

    Finished T/C New Englander

Dang PhotoBucket again! It had originally flipped my pictures upside down, I then rotated them so they were correct, and now they decided to flip two of them again! Also I was just wondering. In the pictures, the hammer is at safety/half cock. I tried re-orienting it, but this is the only way...

    Finished T/C New Englander

Hi all. So, I have just finished working on my T/C New Englander .54 calibre rifle. This was the one I received that was ridden very hard, and put away even wetter! I did as everyone here was suggesting and what I have read. The barrel is looking much better than when I had last posted, as I had...
